Column: Budget does not help Minnesota families, businesses
Legislators in the 2021 session had one major task before us: How do we recognize the sacrifices our families and businesses made over the past year in crafting a budget that helps all Minnesotans recover from the pandemic? I am sorry to say that the budget reached by the governor, speaker of the House, and Senate majority leader was neither completed on time nor did it go far enough to achieve that goal. A major sticking point along the way was the Democrats' continued desire to raise taxes.

By Esme MurphyDecember 9, 2019 at 5:22 pm MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – More billing mistakes at the Department of Human Services mean Minnesota counties are on the hook for $9 million. A spreadsheet shows every single Minnesota county owes money for chemical dependency programs. Hennepin County owes $2.1 million, Ramsey County owes $629,000 and Dakota County is expected to pay $423,000. St. Louis County, which includes Duluth, owes $629,000.
Column: Democrats' obsession with tax increases forced special session
The 2019 Special Session wrapped up early Saturday morning with a budget sent to Gov. Walz after passing both the Minnesota House and Senate. The House Democrats and Governor Walz's obsession with tax increases forced the special session to happen. Minnesota was in a strong position to pass a budget that funded our priorities without raising a dime in taxes — much less the $12 billion in increases that passed the Democrat-controlled House.

Column: Albright's legislative update
It's been a busy first few weeks here at the Capitol. Committees have begun to meet, set the rules we will be governed under, and the first bills are making their way to committee. Below is a quick recap of the biggest issues of the first few weeks. March for Life Jan. 22 marked the 46th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision by the United States Supreme Court. Thousands of pro-life supporters from across the state took part in a march at the state capitol to show their support for the unborn.

The session is over, here's what happened
We completed the legislative session on May 20, and passed our major bills. I was proud of our legislation. The Legislature passed measures to make filing taxes easier and provide relief for 2.2 million filers. We also increased school funding, addressed the opioid epidemic, and worked to help those struggling to deal with MNLARS.We addressed almost 70 percent of the governor’s concerns with our supplemental budget in a good-faith effort to compromise.

Column: Met Council reform
On May 2, I joined Congressman Jason Lewis and Sen. Eric Pratt at a press conference to discuss proposed changes to the Metropolitan Council.Recently, Lewis passed an amendment to remove the exemption that allows Minnesota to be the only one of over 400 Metropolitan Planning Organizations to not have elected officials on their board.
Column: What's happening at the Legislature
Coming into this session, we wanted to take a look at ways we could improve school safety, and pass legislation toward that end. Yesterday we took an important step in that direction with the passage of our school safety and education bill. I’ve heard from residents in our area whose top priority is improving school safety.
