Why test data management is essential for SOC 2 compliance
Using live data outside production is one of the fastest ways to create compliance risk. It becomes harder to control who can access the data, how it’s handled, and how long it’s kept for. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Enter Test Data Management (TDM). A TDM approach provides the controls SOC 2 auditors look for in this situation.
How test data management helps meet DORA’s resilience testing requirements
DORA requires financial institutions to run tests that prove their systems can withstand operational disruption without exposing sensitive data. This article explains how test data management practices can provide the realistic but safe data needed for resilience testing and the governance controls required under DORA’s ICT risk management rules.
Lend your voice to the State of the Database Landscape survey
There’s no shortage of opinions about where the database industry is headed. Vendors, analysts, and bloggers are quick to describe an increasingly AI-driven future, but those views don’t always match what’s happening inside real teams. You’re the one untangling strange permission errors, or firefighting a failed deployment, or nervously contemplating compliance issues, on systems that have grown far more complex than anyone ever planned. That’s why your voice matters.
A Tribute to Andrew Clarke (a.k.a. Phil Factor)
We are deeply saddened to share the news that Andrew Clarke, better known to Simple-Talk readers as Phil Factor, recently passed away. He was the site’s editor for several years and continued writing for Redgate long after. Many readers will have learned much of what they know about SQL from Andrew. Others will remember working with him on articles, benefiting from his sharp wit and knowledge, or perhaps meeting him at a PASS conference.
Pike’s Market to Pikes Peak: The PASS Summit is Worth the Journey
Recently I spoke at SQL Saturday Denver. The day after the conference we went to visit Pikes Peak Mountain. You have a couple of choices of how you can get to the top of Pikes Peak Summit: hike, drive, or take the Cog railway. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. If you take the railway, you pay more and your time at the top is limited. Hiking up would take more time but you would get physical activity and the satisfaction that you made it to the top.
The App-Aware NOC: The imperatives, and how to make it happen
Fire drills and ensuing all-hands-on-deck calls are nothing new for IT operations teams. I can remember working on a site reliability engineering (SRE) team for a large, global enterprise in the shipping industry back in the late 1990s. Early on in my tenure there, an issue occurred that affected the public facing site. Initially, we thought an app issue was responsible for the outage. In response, a tech lead pulled together an all-hands-on-deck kind of call, with at least 30 people attending.
