By Tony Negline CA With Australia’s Superannuation Complaints Tribunal (SCT) now absorbed into the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), it’s worth reflecting on the top complaint to the outgoing dispute resolution body: disagreements between families and loved ones about payouts from a deceased person’s super fund. These disputes typically centre around who is entitled to receive death benefit payments and why, how they are paid, and tax owed.
Whats next for the SMSF sector
The superannuation sector is being challenged from all sides and regulatory change will continue to be the norm. Tony Negline, Superannuation Leader at Chartered Accountants ANZ, says change is likely to occur at a faster pace than previously and identifies five factors that will bring about significant change.
SMSFs back in the spotlight
The future for Australia’s self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs) has been turned upside down in the past few months. The disruption stems from probes by three government bodies: The Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry, the Productivity Commission (PC) and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). The Royal Commission is to start examining the super industry and SMSFs this week.
