Thermodynamically consistent modeling of granular soils using physics-informed neural networks - Scientific Reports
Abstract In recent years, data-driven approaches have gained considerable momentum in the scientific and engineering communities, owing to their capacity to extract complex patterns from high-dimensional data. Despite their potential, these approaches often require extensive high-quality datasets, may exhibit limited extrapolation capability beyond the training domain, and lack a rigorous foundation grounded in physical and thermodynamic principles.
DEM-CFM analysis of Lode angle influence on the undrained cyclic behavior of anisotropically consolidated soils - Scientific Reports
Abstract This study examines the behavior of anisotropically consolidated granular assemblies under undrained cyclic true triaxial loading paths. To achieve this, the Discrete Element Method (DEM) is conjugated with the Coupled Fluid Method (CFM) to account for fluid-solid interaction in undrained conditions. The examined loading paths include two phases: anisotropic consolidation and undrained cyclic true triaxial loading.
Complex High‐Cyclic Loading in an Accumulation Model for Sand
1 Introduction Traffic (such as high-speed trains and magnetic levitation trains [1]), industrial sources (such as crane rails and machine foundations [2, 3]), wind and waves (such as on- and offshore wind turbines and coastal structures [4]), repeatedly filling and emptying processes (such as locks, tanks, and silos [5]), construction processes (such as pile installation by vibration [6]), or granular soil compaction (such as vibratory compaction [7]) can all result in a high-cyclic loading...
Influence of Sampling Methods on the Accuracy of Machine Learning Predictions Used for Strain-Dependent Slope Stability
1. Introduction Supervised machine learning (ML) methods like the artificial neural network (ANN) or multi-layer perceptrons (MLP) have been successfully applied to diverse geotechnical engineering problems.
Long-Term Response of Piles to Cyclic Lateral Loading Following Vibratory and Impact Driving in Water-Saturated Sand
Abstract The influence of the pile installation by vibratory or impact driving on the response to subsequent cyclic lateral loading, as faced in the offshore environment, is investigated numerically. Large-deformation analyses of the pile installation process using the coupled Eulerian–Lagrangian method considering partially drained conditions are performed. Following the installation, one million lateral load cycles are simulated using the high-cycle accumulation (HCA) model.
Evaluation of the Installation Effect on the Performance of a Granular Column
The procedure of granular column installation impacts soil properties such as stress state, stiffness, and permeability in the near-field of the column. For an accurate and efficient design of relatively costly geostructures on improved subsoil with granular columns, a reliable estimation of the column installation effects on the properties of natural subsoil deposits is necessary.
Application of Critical State Approach to Liquefaction Resistance of Sand-Silt Mixtures under Cyclic Simple Shear Loading
Downloaded 0 times Technical Papers Abstract An extensive experimental program of constant-volume (undrained) cyclic simple shear tests was undertaken on Ticino, Italy, sand with different contents of nonplastic fines, ranging from 0% to 40%. The samples were reconstituted by moist tamping and tested with different initial states, including void ratios and effective vertical stresses.
Behavior of Nonidentical Differently Loaded Interfering Rough Footings
Downloaded 0 times Technical Papers Abstract In geotechnical engineering, interference effects caused by the construction of closely spaced footings have a significant influence on the system behavior of each individual footing.
