His and Hers Poker: The Power of Folding
Hello, Poker Friends! This week's article presents folding in a way you've probably never thought of it before — as an offensive weapon in your poker arsenal. Hero (Tracey) is at a $2/$5 table at the Borgata. It is a very interesting weekend. There is a tournament populated by players who won their entries from playing at satellites in local bars. These "bar league" folks are, on the whole, below-average players who are highly loose and passive.
His and Hers Poker: Adventures in Range Splitting
Hello, Poker Friends! This week, we are going to give you a bit of a thought exercise on a more technical topic — how to split your ranges on different streets and the consequences of doing so. It's Saturday afternoon at a Borgata $2/$5 table. Hero (Matt) has had a good session so far and has run up a big stack. The Main Villain for this hand is a Borgata reg and also a regular listener to the His and Hers Poker Podcast.
His and Hers Poker: Small Sizing Adjustments Can Make a Big Difference
Greetings, Poker Friends! This week we are going to examine a hand in which Tracey feels she could have made a few small adjustments to her bet sizing. Read on and see if you agree. Hero (Tracey) is at a $2/$5 table at the Borgata in the early morning on Saturday. The primary Villain for this hand is a recreational player in his early 40s. He has been at the table for less than a half-hour, but he already seems to be on tilt.
His and Hers Poker: The Goal of Poker
Greetings, Poker Friends! We start off this article with something of a philosophical question: "What is the goal of poker?" Let's see if we can find the answer as we examine this week's hand. Hero (Tracey) is at a $2/$5 table at the Borgata in the early morning. The main Villain is in the small blind, a recreational player in his late 40s. Villain is relatively new to the table, but Hero has already picked up enough to know that he is playing a fairly generic loose-passive game.
His and Hers Poker: Betting Thin to Win
Hello, Poker Friends! This week we are going to examine an often overlooked part of good exploitative play — extremely thin value betting. Hero (Matt) is at a $2/$5 table at the Borgata which is mostly filled with loose-passive recreational players. The Main Villain in this hand falls into that category. The only postflop raises he has made thus far have been shown to be with very strong value holdings. Villain is in the first middle position seat for this hand.
His and Hers Poker: A Precision Strike With Ideal Bet Sizing
Greetings, Poker Friends! This week we are going to focus on how you can use bet sizing to accomplish precise goals. We're back at a $2/$5 table at the Borgata. The table is full of loose-passive players, with one notable exception. The primary Villain for this hand is in the second middle position seat, a reg in her early 30s. Hero (Matt) and the Villain have an extensive history (in fact, she has already featured as the Villain in a prior hand on our podcast).
His and Hers Poker: Looking Ahead to Future Streets
Hello, Poker Friends! This week, we are going to take a look at a key skill you should continually work on improving in your game — looking ahead to future streets. Hero (Matt) is at a $2/$5 table at the Borgata. The Borgata Summer Open is in full swing, so the table is full of loose-passive tournament knockouts. The Main Villain for this hand is in middle position and he just joined the table within the last orbit. He is in his mid-20s and has the "grinder outfit" of hoodie, earbuds and a backpack.
His and Hers Poker: A Hand Against 'Inelastigirl'
Hello, Poker Friends! This week we are going to examine a concept which can help you make your play "incredible" — elasticity. Hero (Matt) is at a $2/$5 table at the Borgata. The table is mostly populated by players knocked out of the Borgata Summer Open tournament event du jour. The Main Villain falls into this category. She is a woman in her early 50s with jewelry and a Jersey Shore tan. Her play is loose, passive, and noticeably quick.
His and Hers Poker: Hobbled by Open-Limping
Hello, Poker Friends! This week we're going to examine the perils of a common, yet easily fixable leak: open-limping! Hero (Matt) is at a $2/$5 table at the Borgata. It is late on Saturday evening (now Sunday morning). At this time of night, tables will often play short-handed until one breaks and the remaining players disperse. Hero's table currently has six players. The Main Villain for this hand is under the gun, directly to Hero's right. Villain is a man in his late 30s or early 40s.
His and Hers Poker: High and Dry
Hello, Poker Friends! This week we are going to examine a common spot in which many players struggle to maintain balance: very dry boards. We're at a $2/$5 table at the Borgata. The main Villain is in the hijack. Villain is a recreational player in his 30s. His play is fairly straightforward, with his bet sizes often indicative of the strength of his holding. Like many $2/$5 players, he continuation bets too much on the flop, but seems to get honest on the turn. Hero (Matt) is on the small blind.
His and Hers Poker: Quest for Redemption
Today's hand is a direct sequel to Tracey's hand from Episode #25 of the His and Hers Poker Podcast. In the podcast hand, Tracey attempted to bluff a player off the turn when she had a monster draw. Unfortunately, she got caught and was stacked. The following occurred only a few orbits later at the same table. We're both at the same $2/$5 table at the Borgata. Tracey is the Hero for this hand. The primary Villain in the hand is on the button. He is a friendly guy in his late 20s.
