Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

1. Get familiar with the publication or website you want to pitch. Read back issues. What types of stories feature? How long are the articles? If you have a particular story in mind, pitch it to the correct publication 2. Write your own blurb, headline and captions. This shows professionalism. Your headline and blurb may get changed but at least you’ve given the editor something to work with. 3. Never pester editors. Give them at least a month to respond. If no response, keep pitching elsewhere. 4. When you send queries to editors, mention in brief where you have been and what you plan in future. 5. Get published anywhere and everywhere. Build a portfolio you can link to 6. Improve your photography. Most publications want images. 8. Find new and interesting angles.

Anytime, I choose when to read my emails
