I'm a breaking news reporter to my bone marrow. As I told a co-worker once, "It's not in my blood, it IS my blood." I've tried community news, sports, features, and I've even tried PR (TWICE!!) and none of them ever took. My boots were made to be on the ground, at ground zero, wherever that may be.
I've dedicated the last few years to doing extensive research on the little-known effects of gangs in Mississippi -- a place where people really don't like to talk about gangs. I have a few big stories that will always be my stories as far as I'm concerned -- one of those being the 2017 shooting spree in Brookhaven, MS, that left 8 dead, and one being the Jessica Chambers murder case in Panola County. There are so many others, but those two are with me every day.
I'm was working at WLBT/Fox40 News in Jackson, writing, shooting, and social media-ing, covering the eclectic mix of news that only Mississippi can churn up. One day, though, I realized the grind of TV news didn't give me the autonomy I needed to cover the stories I think are important, so I founded Darkhorse Press, LLC.
Now I'm running Darkhorse, reporting, doing public speaking, assigning stories, and making my own life while still informing Mississippians of what's going on in their state. Life is good. :)
