SPILL BOOK REVIEW: MELISSA AUF DER MAUR – EVEN THE GOOD GIRLS WILL CRY: A ’90S ROCK MEMOIR
MELISSA AUF DER MAUR – EVEN THE GOOD GIRLS WILL CRY: A ’90S ROCK MEMOIR BOOK REVIEW BY TRISH MELANSON Women finally emerged as a force in rock music in the 80s, led by trailblazers such as Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, and Ann and Nancy Wilson. By the time the grunge and alternative scene began to take hold in the 90s, it was inevitable that women would emerge as a force there as well.
SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: JOE NOLAN - LUV IN THE NEW WORLD
A skilled artist can create a great song by blending skilled musicianship with endearing melodies and setting catchy words to music. On the other hand, the ability to create lyrics which, when juxtaposed with the perfect instrumentation, create heart-moving pieces that leave the listener changed forever, is much rarer. Lyrics are the gift granted to listeners who take the time to listen.
SPILL FILM REVIEW: CATCHING FIRE: THE STORY OF ANITA PALLENBERG
CATCHING FIRE: THE STORY OF ANITA PALLENBERG MAY 3, 2024 “I’ve been called a witch, a slut, and a murderer. I’ve been hounded by police and slandered in the press. Maybe people confuse me with the characters I played in films, like I’m an empty sign on which they project their fantasies and their shortcomings. But I don’t need to settle scores. I’m reclaiming my soul.

SPILL LIVE REVIEW: GARBAGE @ THE PHOENIX, TORONTO
Garbage @ The Phoenix, Toronto October 26th, 2015 They say one man’s garbage is another man’s treasure. If this is true, The Phoenix Concert Theatre made Toronto one of the richest places in the world Monday night, as Garbage was in the house. Concertgoers clearly believed it as well – the room was filled to absolute capacity. It was standing room only, with movement through the venue led by a push from behind.

Hot off the press, here it is! The band has just (as in hours ago) released their brand new video for “Upside Down & Inside Out”, and as usual have gone to great lengths to deliver a video that is out of this world.. or at least out in near space. Great tune, great video.. we’ll let it speak for itself.

The catchy new tune “…bounces along on a wave of distorted guitar melodies that lend an almost whimsical counterpoint to the lyrics, which drip with cynicism but still registers as a good time.” After six years of touring the West Coast and continental United States on top of cycling through five different band members, Seattle indie-rock outfit Neighbors have seen enough shit to pack together one hell of an album.
