What does it mean to be a journalist?
I don't consider myself a journalist, that wouldn't be fair to them. I'm a writer.

Smoke signals...but email will work too.

My ears, quickly followed by my eyes.

Why did you become a journalist?
As I said, I don't consider myself a journalist. I consider myself a writer and essayist.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
My op-ed column. It means to me that I am not writing from the outside looking in.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't wait to get asked to write.
When's the best time to pitch you?
When you've just got a wad of cash to offer writers.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
Getting the call from the Spanish newspaper, el HOY to see if I was interested in contributing to the op-ed section. Writing from the inside.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Try not to focus on the negatives, too little time.

With good company.
