The Daily Dot's newsletter is moving to Substack
We have an important update for our newsletter readers: The Daily Dot is moving to Substack. You’ll still receive your daily digest of internet culture news, and we’ll continue publishing stories on the main Daily Dot website. The only change is that the email format will look a little different—but the content will remain the same: the internet stories and links you know and love. One major advantage of this move is that Substack lets us connect with you directly.
"Back in my day they used to make 22-episode seasons": Has the enthusiasm for "Stranger Things" died of old age?
It’s been 9 years since Stranger Things first came into our lives. The release of a teaser for the final season of Stranger Things inspired jokes about how long the series has run vs. its episode count. The Netflix show will end at nine and a half years past its starting point, racking up just 42 episodes. Jokes about how long we’ve had to wait for a final resolution to the tale are reaching meme status. Stranger Things premiered on Netflix on July 15, 2016, just over nine years ago.
"End of an era": Microsoft is killing off the legendary "blue screen of death"
The times, they are a-changing—at least over at Microsoft, that is. The universally shared Windows user experience of the “blue screen of death” will soon be a thing of the past. For the uninitiated, the “screen of death” refers to the blue screen that takes over the entire Windows UI when an error so terrible occurs that you’re forced to restart completely. For many Microsoft users, seeing the flash of this blue image immediately brings up feelings of frustration, lost work, and emotional pain.
"Nickelodeon BROKE this man": The internet rallies around canceled "Tiny Chef Show" series
Sometimes our favorite TV shows are canceled too soon, and other times we don’t even hear about them until after they’ve been given the ax. In the case of The Tiny Chef Show, it appears many of the show’s most fervent supporters have only discovered it days ago. The Tiny Chef Show’s rise (and fall) on network TV Nickelodeon’s stop-motion animated series The Tiny Chef Show made its debut on the network in September 2022.
The best "It's not clocking to you that I'm standing on business" memes inspired by Justin Bieber
It’s been just over a week since Justin Bieber casually dropped a phrase that will live in internet infamy while asking the paparazzi to leave him alone. And yet, we aren’t tired of “it’s not clocking to you that I’m standing on business” so far. On June 12th, Justin Bieber was spotted leaving the Malibu Soho House by the paparazzi outside. However, instead of ignoring them as he usually does, Justin spoke directly to the cameras in a plea for privacy, saying, “I’m a dad, I’m a husband.
The most creative, funny, and thought-provoking signs at the "No Kings Day" protests across America
American social feeds are flooded with images of protesters and handmade signs coming out of the massive protests happening across the United States over the weekend. In direct contrast to Donald Trump’s birthday and the 250th anniversary of the army parade happening in Washington, D.C., all across America, concerned citizens showed up with their signs in inclement weather to show our government that they don’t support what’s happening.
"Work smarter, not harder": Video of Target's window-washing drone divides viewers
We appear to be living in the future, as a viral video of a drone power washing windows at a local Target store is going viral on TikTok. The video, which is sparking discussion across TikTok and other social media apps, was captured in Brooklyn’s downtown neighborhood and uploaded by @smolsboard on June 6, 2025. The video’s caption states, “Wait what?? LOL,” while the popular TikTok earworm song “WTHELLY” plays in the background.

Ken Jeong and Kristen Schaal on their new film, 'My Spy The Eternal City'
This weekend, My Spy The Eternal City will premiere on screens across America when it hits Amazon Prime. A follow-up to 2020’s My Spy, the sequel takes place in Italy during a school choir trip that Sophie (Chloe Coleman) has been selected to join—and JJ (Dave Bautista) decides to come along as a chaperone. Lucky for us, JJ’s boss, David (Ken Jeong), and colleague Bobbi (Kristen Schaal) return for this new film and follow the crew to Europe for some action-packed shenanigans.
Geraldine Viswanathan and Beanie Feldstein on their new film, 'Drive Away Dolls'
Drive Away Dolls marks Ethan Coen’s first feature film he’s done without his brother in tow—and the first he’s written alongside his wife, Tricia Cooke. The movie, set in 1999, features an all-star cast of Geraldine Viswanathan, Margaret Qualley, Beanie Feldstein, Matt Damon, Colman Domingo, and Pedro Pascal. So, what can viewers expect from the film? I would describe it as a female-led road trip movie with many unexpected twists and turns along the way.
Ryan Gosling becomes an instant meme with his latest award win reaction
He may just be Ken, but Ryan Gosling is also the dream meme machine that keeps on giving this awards season. ICYMI, Gosling hasn’t been holding back when it comes to his hilarious facial reactions at recent awards shows. Whether it be his non-reaction to unfunny jokes about Barbie, or—as I’ll be discussing here—his lowkey horrified reaction to winning an award for his iconic tune, “I’m Just Ken,” his face has made for the absolute perfect meme time and time again.

All our thoughts about the 'Succession' finale
|
Well, it’s official: HBO’s Succession is over after four seasons. The series, which inspired a lot of discourse online on the Sunday nights that it aired, concluded with a polarizing finale. Some Succession heads felt it tied the story up nicely, while others were left in shock. We had many thoughts about it—so many we decided to do another Daily Dot staff chat. In this conversation, we touch on several topics—including Shiv’s fanbase and our favorite scenes of the finale.

If Male Superheroes Posed Like Wonder Woman
The latest Justice League comic book has been revealed, and we feel like Wonder Woman looks a little bit over-sexualized. Bleeding Cool points out an artist's imagination of what our male superheros would look like if they were posed just as sexually. We think they look ...good? [Via Bleeding Cool]
Bachelor Pad: Let's All Throw Eggs At The Ugly Girl!
Last night's Bachelor Pad really lowered the bar for all reality shows when it lined up its entire cast, painted targets on their backs, and let the members of the opposite sex throw eggs at the people to whom they felt the least attracted. Yes, you read that right. Chris Harrison explained the rules to the cast before they stripped down into matching white bikinis and shorts (for the ladies and men, respectively): "You will be asked three, very difficult and revealing questions," he said.
Hey, It's The 1990s
The latest from Everything Is Terrible is a compilation of actors saying lines that include words "it's the 90s" in both television and film. As in, "Chill out, man, it's the 90s" or "She did what? That is soooo 90s." But of all of the memorable references, my favorites have to be Christina Applegate declaring "I can be anything I wanna be, it's the 90s!" on Married With Children and Bea Arthur on Golden Girls saying "Ma, it's the 90s.

Here's some high-quality footage from a gig Joseph Gordon-Levitt played on Tuesday night at the Neptune Theater in Seattle, Washington. He song of choice was a solo version of Nirvana's "Lithium," and despite the fact that JGL was just a mere child starring in Angels In The Outfield when this song was on the radio, it's good.

Watch Miss USA Hopefuls Awkwardly Dance Around The Evolution Issue
During their pre-pageant questioning, each of the potential Miss USAs were asked a simple question: "Should evolution be taught in schools?" Here are their trimmed-down, wishy washy answers. This year's winner, Miss Califorina's Alyssa Campanella, believes in evolution (she also said she was a big history geek). But sadly, the vast majority of the girls don't believe in evolution at all, and many don't think it should be taught in schools.
Shannen Doherty And The "I Hate Brenda" Backlash
Before the invention of the internet, you had to get creative in order to ridicule your least favorite actors and actresses. Enter a giant piñata of Shannen Doherty's head, a punk single called "Hating Brenda," and something called the I Hate Brenda Newsletter. This vintage treat from 1993 takes a look at the world of rabid 90210 fans that hated Brenda Walsh more than anything else in the world.
Watch Baby Ryan Gosling and Baby Justin Timberlake's Mickey Mouse Club Serenade
If you're anything like me, you threw a fit until your parents special-ordered the Disney Channel, ran home from school every day to catch the Mickey Mouse Club at 5pm, and taped each of their concert specials on VHS to treasure forever and ever. But if your preteen obsessions were more highbrow than mine, here's a clip you might have missed from one of said specials.
How I Met Your Mother Ponders What Makes a Real New Yorker
When a friend downtown texts with a Woody Allen sighting, the gang decides that a "true New Yorker" wouldn't care. This spawns a discussion about which public transportation system is fastest and inspires an episode-long race through Manhattan.
The Babykini Is A Thing
According to Good Morning America, the Babykini (sometimes referred to as the Babi Kini) is the "latest" "trend" sweeping over the bottoms of our nation's infants. These two-piece string bikinis designed for babies don't cover a lot, naturally — but is "too revealing" even a factor when we're talking about babies? They have nothing to reveal but sweet little folds of baby fat.
Caffeine-Infused Leggings Are Just Fucking With You
Good Morning America signed up their fearless product-debunking reporter to find out whether leggings with caffeine in them and a Lady Gaga-esque weight-loss egg will actually help to lose weight. Wearing $50 leggings laced with caffeine for three weeks will supposedly cut inches from your hips and an inch from your thighs.
