Tykesha Spivey Burton’s Biography

Tykesha Spivey Burton is a freelance travel journalist and photographer based in Maryland. Her work has appeared in Condé Nast, National Geographic, Travel + Leisure, AFAR, Fodor's Travel, Essence, The Saturday Evening Post, and more.

A Miami native and lifelong fan of personal life stories, she began her journalism career as a writer for a popular South Florida TV news show. She then went on to work as an associate TV news producer in North Carolina. She’s also an alum of the Black Press, having worked as a staff writer for The Miami Times and a contributor for The Washington Informer.

She graduated with Journalism and African American Studies degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. When she’s not freelancing, Tykesha travels with her two children.
