Boston Herald — More than 26,000 raced in the CELSIUS Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Las Vegas on Feb. 22, but only Bristol-Plymouth junior Mary MacDonald crossed the finish line as the wheelchair half-marathon winner. MacDonald, a Taunton resident, finished in 1:15:11, over 16 minutes ahead of her closest competitor. “I was just trying to get through the race,” MacDonald said. “Especially, it being my first half-marathon. It was a lot of just trying to keep myself going, so by the time I crossed the finish line I was like, ‘Oh wait, I don’t have to push anymore. Yay.'”

Fontbonne basketball coach reflects on career after Hall of Fame induction

Boston Herald — Fontbonne girls basketball coach Clare Murphy was inducted into the Northeast - New Agenda Women's Sports Organization Hall of Fame on Nov. 2, but her career is far from finished. Murphy, who has coached basketball at Fontbonne for 35 years (head coach for 28 years) and teaches physical education at Quincy’s Atlantic Middle School, was thankful to receive recognition from an organization that promotes educational equity, equal opportunity and awareness of evolving needs of New England female athletes. “I’ve spent a very long time at the school as a student and now as a coach, helping to educate female athletes,” she said. “To be able to be recognized by so many amazing female coaches of all varying sports is really, really special.”

Four unbeaten teams occupy the higher seeds in the MIAA fall volleyball state tournament brackets, with Chelmsford at the top in Div. 1. The Lions (20-0) have clinched the Merrimack Valley Conference Large title. Led by Kyra Ward, Bonnie Politzer and Ellen Griswold, they defeated various contenders in Andover (twice), Billerica (twice), Central Catholic (twice), Wellesley (twice) and Westford Academy (twice).

Boston Herald — Growing up in Dublin, Ireland, Reason Prep Academy senior Vincent Osazee didn't think he would turn out to be his program's first Div. 1 college men's basketball player. A Milton resident, the 6-foot-8 small forward/power forward has committed to the University of the Pacific and hopes to reach the NBA. Ranked No. 11 on ESPN’s 2026 Massachusetts boys basketball recruits, he can dunk, finish well at the rim, knock down three-pointers, grab rebounds and play strong defense, despite a late introduction to the sport.

Boston Herald — Capturing three consecutive Div. 1 high school girls volleyball state championships might be enough reason for Newton North to ease up on the gas pedal. No such luck. "The girls bring a lot of hard work to the season," said Newton North coach Nile Fox. "They make goals in the beginning of the season and go after all of them. A lot of success comes from the preparation we do. We practice hard work on things that we struggle with and we make sure we know all that we can about our opponents.”
