As a youth attending Beloit Memorial High School in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Tyler wanted to be a sheriff paramedic. But the emergency response positions of cop and EMT only tended to be combined in very rural areas, so he compromised and volunteered in Madison as an EMT while working in law enforcement in Beloit.
