The future of GTA roleplaying remains in GTA 5 for now, as Rockstar touts new invite-only Nopixel V RP server
nopixel V Trailer - YouTube Watch On Rockstar announced today that Nopixel V is "the next evolution of the GTA 5 roleplay community," which has led to some head-scratching from casual GTA RP followers (like myself), because Nopixel V isn't something you or I can just jump into and play. Nopixel Studios runs both public and private GTA 5 roleplaying servers, and Nopixel V is the latest version of its modded sandbox.
'Claude Strife': DLSS 5 has escaped into the wild, and things are immediately weird
A version of Nvidia's controversial DLSS 5 tech has escaped containment before its official release, and people are jamming it into games that, to be fair to Nvidia, it is not necessarily optimized for yet. The result has been comedic, off-putting, and for some, just what they've always desired. The image above, which has been dubbed "Claude Strife" (I don't know who made the joke first, but I'll give it to Brian Bucklew ), apparently demonstrates DLSS 5 at extreme settings.

4 hours ago If you don’t know how to pronounce Leominster, the historic market town in Herefordshire, England, you’d be forgiven. It’s pronounced Lem-ster, a fact that swiftly differentiates out-of-towners from locals. Another thing you might not know? That Leominster (population: 12,000) is home to a …

"Is it AI?" HUMANKIND™ 2 - Announcement Trailer - YouTube Watch On Whether or not you care about the giant argument playing out over generative AI, the discourse is pretty inescapable during big videogame reveal events like Gamescom. Alongside "when's it out" and "can you pet the dog," the internet now also wants to know: Is it AI? Sometimes, it is AI. But false positives happen, too.

We've got more Grand Theft Auto 6 details to chew on, and this time not from a vegetable. An interview in magazine Dazed has revealed a bunch of details about the design of GTA 6, including how character swapping between protagonists Jason and Lucia works. We'll get straight into it. Here are the most notable details from the interview: 1.

Humankind 2 trailer accused of being 'AI slop,' studio says nope: 'real actors, practical sets, and custom-made props'
HUMANKIND™ 2 - Announcement Trailer - YouTube Watch On Humankind 2 was announced today at Gamescom's Opening Night Live showcase, and I have to admit that I was among those who raised an eyebrow at the announcement trailer and wondered: Is this AI generated? A number of commenters speculated that it was. Nope, says the studio.

Rockstar employees frustrated by GTA 6 leaks
Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reports that some Rockstar employees are feeling "angry" and "frustrated" that, despite submitting to strict security measures following the 2022 hack that revealed Grand Theft Auto 6 to the world—namely the abolishment of remote work—a leak has once again sprung. Someone going by the name "Cyberleek" has been posting new GTA 6 gameplay clips every day for the past few days.
OK, Vice City does look pretty damn impressive from the air
GTA 6 trailer. We've pulled lots of interesting little details out of the purported Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay clips being posted by "Cyberleek" this week. In the first couple we saw a possible morality system and stamina meter, and in the next two we got a better look at combat and spied some other Red Dead Redemption 2-like features.
Who is Cyberleek? What we know about the GTA 6 leaker
On August 18, an unidentified person or group going by the name "Cyberleek" began sharing what appeared to be Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay clips on the internet. The internet was naturally skeptical, but the footage was hard to fault: It looked authentic, showing mundane GTA 6 gameplay featuring its male protagonist, Jason. In one clip the player shot a basketball outside of the same house we've seen in the trailers, and in another he did some typical GTA random-civilian-murdering.

The first of the new clips shows a player stealing a cop's motorcycle, driving it into a river, and then casually murdering the inhabitants of an encampment under a freeway.

GTA 6 leaks show a game that looks like more GTA, but not a revolution
Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer still - meathead in shades and backwards ball cap riding a chopper. The exciting thing about Rockstar games is not that they have the most advanced technology behind them, the best stories, or the most avant-garde game systems. It's the extraordinary amount of work the studio invests into the little details that make up its big worlds.

GTA 6's Netflix deal forces us to ask: can you pirate an advertisement?
Let's be real, come August 27, the Grand Theft Auto 6 "extended look" is not going to be exclusive to Netflix for six hours as advertised. It's going to be exclusive to Netflix for however long it takes for someone to record it and distribute a torrent. You wouldn't download a car, but would you download an ad for a game about stealing cars? It would be, I've now had to consider, technically piracy to do so.

Big Walk patch addresses voice volume complaints with restraint: 'We consider it an important part of the game's design that you can only hear players who are close to you'
Big Walk screenshot. Fantastic new puzzle game Big Walk drew some early complaints over the volume of its proximity voice chat, which was too quiet for some players and mic setups, and developer House House has now released a patch that it hopes will resolve the issue while respecting the spirit of the game. The studio has a fine line to walk, because Big Walk's primary source of friction is the challenge of communicating over distances.

Has 'Xbox 360 brown' nostalgia finally arrived?
Gears of war: E-day. Will anyone ever reminisce fondly about the 2026 Toyota Camry? It seems impossible. Today's cars are almost all ugly to me, and the exceptions are usually concept cars that mimic the lines of decades past. And yet, on an intellectual level, I know that perspectives on this will change. My first car was a 1990 Toyota Camry that was not at all cool when I was driving it around in the 2000s. Now?

Zach Cregger may be making the best Resident Evil movie yet, but some fans aren't happy about it
I'm in such a bubble of positivity for Barbarian and Weapons director Zach Cregger's upcoming Resident Evil movie (out September 18) that I had no idea anyone was upset about it until I looked at the reactions to some of PC Gamer's coverage. The movie is Resident Evil "in name and nothing else," one person wrote in reply to one of our social media posts.

I love that Matt Damon once turned down 'a bunch of money' to appear in a Bourne game because they wouldn't make it more like Myst
Fortnite skins based on Odysseus (Matt Damon) and Agamemnon (Benny Safdie) from Christopher Nolan's adaptation of The Odyssey. Xbox's new chief strategist is a metaverse true believer
Speaking to The Game Business after he was hired (before this week's "reset"), Ball said that step one for Xbox is shoring up its console business. But new Gears of War games are unlikely to achieve Sharma's ambitious goal to entertain "more than a billion people each day." So what's the plan? The big-picture Xbox strategy hasn't been shared (and is surely still developing), but Ball's history suggests that Tim Sweeney and Roblox will be major inspirations.

Tim Sweeney on the future of games, AI, and whether Valve will ever join forces with Epic: 'It's now clear that nobody's going to end up with an absolute monopoly'
At Unreal Fest in Chicago last week, Epic unveiled its masterplan for Unreal Engine 6. Rather than the usual talk of fancy new rendering features, the company is pitching the next version of its industry-standard game engine as a great unifier that will enable "content, code, and economies to become portable and interoperable across games, ecosystems, and engines" and speed up development with AI integration.
5 promising games recently cancelled by Microsoft
Were these "hard decisions" genuinely the pragmatic ones? The 2020s certainly have been marked by some massive flops, and it's possible that some of these projects were money pits. A couple of them were especially risky propositions: big, hard-to-make online games. But as Microsoft doubles down on console exclusives and tries to hurry along heavy-hitters like The Elder Scrolls 6, I've got to wonder if it was wise to toss so much in-progress work, some of which was highly praised internally.
