Comparison of Hospitalization Rates and Clinical Features Between Boys and Girls With Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection
1 Introduction Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the leading cause of hospitalization for lower respiratory tract infection among infants and young children [1-9]. The risk of RSV hospitalization is highest during the first 6 months of life, peaking during the second month after birth [8-12]. Increasing knowledge about the great burden of RSV on young children has underscored the need to find preventive measures especially for the severe forms of RSV illness.
Respiratory Syncytial Virus‐Associated Hospitalizations in Children: A 10‐Year Population‐Based Analysis in Finland, 2008-2018
1 Introduction Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) places a substantial burden of illness on children worldwide [1-5]. Globally, RSV-associated morbidity and mortality are highest among children living in low- and middle-income countries, but the impact of RSV is substantial also in high-income countries in which approximately 2% of children are hospitalized with RSV during the first year of life [4-8].

Pulmonary function and bronchial reactivity 4 years after the first virus‐induced wheezing
Wheezing illnesses among young children are common, and are a risk factor for asthma. However, determinants of childhood bronchial reactivity, a key feature of asthma, are largely unknown. Aim of this study was to determine how patient characteristics during the first severe virus‐induced wheezing episode are associated with pulmonary function at pre‐school age. Study consisted of 76 children presenting with their first wheezing episode at the ages of 3 to 23 months.

Prednisolone for the first rhinovirus-induced wheezing and 4-year asthma risk: a randomized trial
Previous findings show that corticosteroid treatment during the first acute wheezing episode may reduce recurrent wheezing in children with high rhinovirus genome load at 12-month follow-up. Longer-term effects have not been investigated prospectively. After PCR-confirmation of rhinovirus from nasopharyngeal aspirate, 79 children with the first acute wheezing episode were randomized to receive orally prednisolone or placebo for three days.
