uberPOOL, now available in the Uber API
uberPOOL is one of Uber’s fastest-growing services, with over 100,000 people taking pooled trips every week in cities including San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Beijing and Bangalore. As more and more Uber riders choose to carpool, we want to make sure that developers have access to this product in their apps. Starting today, uberPOOL is now available through the Uber API. If your application uses the Uber Rides API, uberPOOL will begin to show as an available product in certain API endpoints.
Why We Decided to Rewrite Uber's Driver App
This article is the first in a series covering how Uber’s mobile engineering team developed the newest version of our driver app, codenamed Carbon, a core component of our ridesharing business. Among other new features, the app lets our population of over three million driver-partners find fares, get directions, and track their earnings. We began designing the new app in conjunction with feedback from our driver-partners in 2017, and began rolling it out for production in September 2018.
Welcoming the Era of Deep Neuroevolution
By Kenneth O. Stanley, Jeff Clune On behalf of an Uber AI Labs team that also includes Joel Lehman, Jay Chen, Edoardo Conti, Vashisht Madhavan, Felipe Petroski Such, & Xingwen Zhang. In the field of deep learning, deep neural networks (DNNs) with many layers and millions of connections are now trained routinely through stochastic gradient descent (SGD). Many assume that the ability of SGD to efficiently compute gradients is essential to this capability.
Uber + Public Transit by CityMapper - Uber Developers - Medium
Like peanut butter and jelly, Uber and public transportation complement each other. But planning your route is rarely an easy task. It often requires juggling multiple bus and subway schedules, making sure you leave the house on time, and walking or trying to hail a cab for the first or last mile of your journey. The process can be time-consuming and expensive. It’s why so many people rely on their personal vehicles to get around.
