Interview

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes

How is social media changing news?

I see social media transforming news in profound ways. It’s shifting the power from traditional news outlets to individuals and smaller voices. Now, instead of waiting for prime-time broadcasts or morning newspapers, I can get breaking news updates in real-time from Twitter or Instagram. Algorithms curate what I see, often personalizing my feed based on my interests, but that also creates the challenge of echo chambers, where I encounter perspectives similar to mine more frequently.Citizen journalism is on the rise, where anyone with a smartphone can become a reporter. This means news spreads faster, but it also comes with risks—misinformation can spread just as easily, and I have to be more cautious about verifying sources. On the flip side, I enjoy how social media adds context to news, with commentary, analysis, and opinions readily available in the comments or through influencers and thought leaders I follow.Platforms like Reddit and Twitter also offer a space for discussion, allowing me to engage actively in conversations rather than passively consuming the news. I find it empowering but overwhelming at times because there’s just so much happening all at once. Social media is democratizing news consumption, but it’s also blurring the lines between facts and opinions, making media literacy more crucial than ever.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

N/A

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I prefer to be pitched on stories that are clear, concise, and aligned with my interests. Start with a strong subject line or hook that immediately captures my attention. I appreciate when the pitch quickly gets to the point—what the story is about, why it matters, and why it's relevant to me right now. I’m drawn to pitches that are well-researched and provide real value, especially if they touch on business, healthcare, personal finance, sports, or community impact. If you can include data, case studies, or unique insights, even better. And I always appreciate a clear next step—whether it's a follow-up conversation, a collaboration opportunity, or simply sharing a resource. Bottom line: keep it sharp, relevant, and purposeful.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I rely on a range of tools and software to stay productive and efficient. For writing and content creation, I use Google Docs and Microsoft Word, which help with drafting and collaboration. Grammarly is my go-to for ensuring clarity and grammar accuracy. For project management, I use Trello or Asana to keep track of tasks and deadlines. When I’m working on social media content, I prefer tools like Canva for visuals and Hootsuite to schedule and manage posts. I also rely on SEO tools like SEMrush and Google Analytics to track performance and optimize blog content. For collaboration, Zoom and Microsoft Teams are essential for meetings and brainstorming sessions. Email management is streamlined with tools like Outlook, and I use cloud storage like Google Drive to store and share files. If I need research or web browsing assistance, I turn to browsers like Chrome with various extensions for productivity. And for technical projects or coding, I rely on Jupyter Notebook or GitHub to manage development work. These tools make it easier to manage multiple aspects of my work efficiently.

What's your favorite social network?

I’d say my favorite social network is LinkedIn. It’s not just about socializing—it’s where I keep up with industry trends, connect with like-minded professionals, and explore opportunities. Plus, it feels productive; every interaction adds value, whether it's learning from posts, joining discussions, or building meaningful networks. And let's be honest, the platform’s insights and resources help me stay ahead in this fast-evolving tech space.

Who do you wish followed you?

I’d love to be followed by people who are driven, innovative, and making real impact—industry leaders, top entrepreneurs, creative thinkers, and changemakers. Folks who are passionate about business, healthcare, personal development, and community growth. Ideally, I’d want to build a network that includes visionary CEOs, respected physicians, rising professionals, pro athletes with purpose, and even a few inspirational authors or public figures who align with values like leadership, integrity, and giving back. Basically, people who are doing big things, staying humble, and lifting others as they rise.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

be authentic

What's the best pitch you ever got?

The best pitch I ever got was short, clear, and tailored perfectly to my needs. A founder approached me with a solution for streamlining content workflows. Instead of focusing solely on the product, they highlighted how it could specifically solve pain points I mentioned in previous conversations. They used real-world examples and projected measurable outcomes, showing ROI within months. The pitch was conversational, not rehearsed, and left room for questions. Their confidence and ability to listen stood out. It didn’t feel like a pitch—it felt like a solution I couldn’t pass up. That mix of relevance and empathy sealed the deal.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

It's too complicated
