Unity Jackson-Muir’s Biography

I am a third-year journalism and genetics student at the University of Queensland where I study a bachelor of arts and science. I've recently been working for the radio station 4ZZZ producing news bulletins I read live-to-air and helping out by fill-in hosting shows.

After graduating, I intend to pursue a career as a professional journalist specializing in science communication or social justice. As such, many of my experiences and activities are geared toward this industry.

I became interested in this field as I have consistently been drawn to political issues and science. I have also always had highly developed communications skills with both my high school ancient history and biology teachers suggesting I enter journalism. I consider myself a highly motivated, hardworking, and capable individual with a unique capacity for fast learning.

During my time at UQ so far, I have had a range of unique opportunities to showcase my creative flair, work on my social media skills, and maximise my technical knowledge in both journalism and genetics.

I've also been able to use this time to engage with UQ societies, social sports, volunteering activities, go on an international exchange, learn French, and be elected to executive positions with UQ JACS. My communication skills and applications of political science became particularly strengthened during my international exchange at Sciences Po Paris.
