How can we tackle air pollution?
Seven million people die of air pollution, worldwide, every year. This episode of LSE IQ asks how this invisible killer can be tackled. Sue Windebank speaks to Rosamund Adoo-Kissi-Debrah about her campaigning work for both clean air and a new inquest into the causes of her daughter’s death. Progress with solar heat in India
What will you call a man who first grumbles about higher oil prices and then cause a rally ithis own actions? Yes, Trump. WTI touched $74, highest since 2014. Brent rallied too settling at $78 at one point. The bulls are back and they have all the reasons to be. As the market weighs in different factors, here are the reasons that caused this recent price spike.
Commentary: Progress with solar heat in India
The production of heat accounts for around one half of energy demand around the globe – the largest of all energy end uses. Heat demand is also significant in some of the hottest countries such as India where despite the climate it is still necessary for cooking, hot water and industry. In fact in India, heat accounts for two-thirds of total final energy consumption.
Embracing Renewables in Cuba
Industrial heat makes up two-thirds of industrial energy demand and almost one-fifth of global energy consumption. It also constitutes most of the direct industrial CO emitted each year, as the vast majority of industrial heat originates from fossil-fuel combustion. Yet despite these impressive figures, industrial heat is often missing from energy analyses. That is why this year’s World Energy Outlook takes a deep dive in this important segment of our energy system.
Iraq’s Oil and Gas Sector: A Wise Action is Required
Iraq is the third-largest oil producer in OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) after Saudi Arabia and Iran, also holds the World’s fifth-largest proved oil reserves in the world. Iraq’s oil production rate has been fluctuated frequently, mainly affected by the imposed wars against Iran (from 1980) and Kuwait in 1990-91 (named Persian Gulf War), Iraq war in 2003 and recently, war against ISIS (Islamic States in Iraq and Syria) since 2014.

Commentary: More policy attention is needed for renewable heat
As winter temperatures plummet in the Northern hemisphere, renewable heat is increasingly being used to provide heat for warmth and comfort. Yet it has a long way to go to catch up with fossil fuels, which currently provide more than three-quarters of heat production globally, resulting in significant CO emissions and in some cases adding to local air pollution.
More policy attention is needed for renewable heat
Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), is a semi autonomous government established in the northern provinces of Iraqi federal, with area of 40,643 sq.km and population of 5.1 million (2012 estimated).
