The High Cost of Technical Debt and Bad IT Operations
When businesses aren’t equipped with the proper technology or have let their IT infrastructure age out more than five years, they’re digging themselves into debt – technical debt. If you’re large enough to hire a human resources professional, you should be treating that person as one of your most important right-hand leaders. Over time, as you and your leaders deal with constant growth, you will need to focus more on your team. Making sure that you have a smart, talented, and culturally aligned group is very important for the long haul.

How to Elevate Customer Service by Design
For years I’ve been asked during Q&A sessions, “Why is customer service so poor?” It’s often posed as a rhetorical question with no answer expected. But I answer it anyway. The reason that you and I, as customers, consistently receive indifferent, transactional, or apathetic customer service is because exceptional customer service behaviors are always voluntary.
People Management: Why Projects Big and Small Fail
Transformation. It’s the buzzword of the day/year. In a nutshell, transformational initiatives are larger and more complex with more on the line than large projects of the past. And so far, are these current initiatives faring better than the large ones from two decades ago? It’s spotty, to say the least. Under old management Project management practices have become standard in many companies today, yet the truth is that project success statistics haven’t improved much over the last 30 years.
Who Should Get to Decide How and Where we Work?
The Work from Home (WFH) movement is beyond here to stay. It’s a fact of life and a reality for a large minority of workers worldwide. But while WFH has become “old hat,” there is still a lot to learn and a lot more to work out to ensure employees are working in the conditions they prefer. Is Your IT Investment More Smoke than Substance?
Completing several hundred IT projects a year, I meet many companies’ leadership teams. In many cases, I’m there because something is wrong in the technology arena, slowing the company’s forward progress. Sometimes, as was the case with a new prospective client recently, company leadership can get caught up in the details around technology and completely miss the big picture around technology’s role in their organization.

By Val King A stated goal in the VMware Horizon documentation is "to provide an excellent out-of-the-box configuration for most local area network (LAN) use cases, negating the need to perform complex tuning or learn hundreds of policy settings." VMware notes that "some use cases and situations require additional tuning, especially for wide area networks (WANs)." You may have asked yourself, “Why are some firms able to deliver new IT projects and innovations two and sometimes three times faster than their competition with the same IT budget?” Well, you’re in good company. Lessons Quickly Learned Using Managed IT
A financial services organization recently completed a self-assessment of their IT capability and did not like the results. Shortly after grasping the daunting challenges that lay before them, a larger question began to surface. What do we do about it? The first plan of action the financial services organization implemented was a leadership shake-up. While the balance of the organization was healthy and growing, IT was not growing or adapting to the change at the same pace.
Lakeside's Santa passes away
Veteran Santa Tony Fletcher has sadly not made it to his 89th Christmas. Tony, remembered by thousands of children over the years, died exactly a month before Christmas Day. Tony, who used to joke that he was one of the few Santas who did not sport a fake beard, was among the earliest residents of Lakeside.
