Impact of Metabolic Bariatric Surgery on Weight Loss and Glycemic Control in Adults With Type 1 Diabetes: A Multicenter Retrospective Cohort Study Free
OBJECTIVE To assess the effect of metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS) in people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and obesity. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS From retrospective multicenter data, total weight loss, daily insulin requirement, HbA1c, and cardiometabolic parameters were assessed before and after surgery. Longitudinal models were used to identify response determinants. RESULTS This study included 162 people living with T1D and obesity.

Dermal cellular senescence and EndMT in patients with systemic sclerosis undergoing cyclophosphamide or aHSCT treatment

RNA-seq validation of microRNA expression signatures for precision melanoma diagnosis and prognostic stratification - BMC Medical Genomics
Abstract New diagnostic tools are needed to improve the diagnosis and risk stratification of cutaneous melanoma. Disease-specific microRNA signatures have been previously described via NanoString profiling of solid biopsy tissue and plasma. This study validated these signatures via next-generation sequencing technology and compared their performance against clinical metrics and other published melanoma signatures.
Difficult-to-treat rheumatoid arthritis: what have we learned and what do we still need to learn?
Difficult-to-treat rheumatoid arthritis (D2T RA) is an area of high unmet need. The prevalence reported in the first D2T RA cohort studies ranged from 5.5–27.5%. Key to the definition is a conviction by patient and/or rheumatologist that disease management has become problematic and failure of at least two biological or targeted synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs.
Internationale ontwikkelingen in cannabisbeleid voor recreatief gebruik: Eindrapport
Key Findings Since 2010, significant changes in cannabis policy have been observed globally, particularly in countries like Uruguay, Canada, Australia, Germany, Luxembourg, Malta and the US. These changes include the legalisation of recreational cannabis markets and the lifting of bans on cultivation, sale and use, offering a variety of regulatory models that can be considered when thinking of reforming cannabis policy.

Study protocol of the GRoningen early-PD Ambroxol treatment (GREAT) trial: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, single center trial with ambroxol in Parkinson patients with a GBA mutation | BMC Neurology
Abstract To date, no disease modifying therapies are available for Parkinson’s disease (PD). Since PD is the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder, there is a high demand for such therapies. Both environmental and genetic risk factors play an important role in the etiology and progression of PD. The most common genetic risk factor for PD is a mutation in the GBA1(GBA)-gene, encoding the lysosomal enzyme glucocerebrosidase (GCase).
Onderzoek Experiment gesloten coffeeshopketen: Rapportage nulmeting 2022
The primary objective of this experiment is to test the feasibility of realising a controlled supply chain, within which growers can produce and supply quality-controlled cannabis to the coffeeshops. When this closed supply chain is created, it is important that growers, distributors and coffeeshops can operate with an economically sound business model and with manageable costs that can compete with non-regulated variants.
Cholinergic changes in Lewy body disease: implications for presentation, progression and subtypes
Cholinergic degeneration is significant in Lewy body disease, including Parkinson’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, and isolated REM sleep behaviour disorder. Extensive research has demonstrated cholinergic alterations in the CNS of these disorders. More recently, studies have revealed cholinergic denervation in organs that receive parasympathetic denervation.

Accepted manuscripts are PDF versions of the author’s final manuscript, as accepted for publication by the journal but prior to copyediting or typesetting. They can be cited using the author(s), article title, journal title, year of online publication, and DOI. They will be replaced by the final typeset articles, which may therefore contain changes. The DOI will remain the same throughout.
A dens fracture case solved
Dear Editor, IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a fibroinflammatory condition [1] characterized by dense lymphoplasmocytic infiltration rich in IgG4-positive plasma cells, storiform fibrosis and prompt response to corticosteroids. IgG4-RD commonly presents as salivary and lacrimal gland enlargement, orbital disease, autoimmune pancreatitis, retroperitoneal fibrosis and tubulointerstitial nephritis [2].

Tools and criteria to select patients with advanced Parkinson’s disease for device-aided therapies: a narrative review
Journal of Neural Transmission, Jul 2023 This article provides an overview of the various screening and selection tools which have been developed over the past 25 years to identify patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) possibly eligible for device-aided therapies (DATs). For the available screening tools, we describe the target therapies (subtypes of DAT), development methods, validation data, and their use in clinical practice.
Onderzoek Experiment Gesloten Coffeeshopketen: Rapportage voormeting 2021
Note: This report is in Dutch. An English-language summary is available. This document is the first research report in the context of the experiment with a closed cannabis supply chain in the Netherlands. During this experiment, ten municipalities will conduct a pilot with the sale of legally grown cannabis. For this purpose, up to ten commercial cannabis growers are selected and granted (temporary) exemption from the Opium Act.
Validation of a microRNA liquid biopsy assay for diagnosis and risk stratification of invasive cutaneous melanoma
Invasive cutaneous melanoma (ICM) is widely regarded as a curable disease when detected at an early stage. Consequently, there has been a significant rise in the number of diagnostic and treatment procedures performed over the past four decades.

Editorial: Stem cell transplantation in autoimmune diseases (AID)
Around 25 years ago, studies in mouse models of autoimmune disease and case reports and case series describing successful outcomes of (mostly allogeneic) bone marrow transplantation in patients with hematological malignancies and concomitant autoimmune disease showed the potent effects of lymphoablative and myeloablative conditioning and stem cell rescue.

Using real-world data to dynamically predict flares during tapering of biological DMARDs in rheumatoid arthritis: development, validation, and potential impact of prediction-aided decisions | Arthritis Research & Therapy | Full Text
Abstract Background Biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) are effective in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. However, as bDMARDs may also lead to adverse events and are expensive, tapering them is of great clinical interest. Tapering according to disease activity-guided dose optimization (DGDO) does not seem to affect long term remission rates, but flares are frequent during this process.
