Veengas J’s Biography

Veengas is a journalist and editor-in-chief at The Rise News, covering on Politics, Human Rights, Minorities and Terrorism.
She started writing in journalism as a columnist since 2000 and then stepped into the field of journalism as a journalist in 2008.
Veengas has been reporting on minority issue especially on Forced Conversion, human rights, and internal conflicts. She does feature stories, interviews and her work has appeared in different news outlets within and outside the country.
Veengas has interviewed several personalities: “Ms. Melanie J. Veengas has held fellowships of ‘Alfred Friendly fellowship’ in 2017,
‘Asia Journalism Fellowship Programme” in Singapore in 2015, ‘Conflict Transformation Across Cultures’ in Nepal in 2013, ‘Center For International Media Ethics’ Fellowship for Ethics Leadership, 2013 (Online course) and ‘U.S-Pakistan Professional Partnership in Journalism’ Program, in USA in 2011.
Prior to launching The Rise News, Veengas worked at Sindhi newspaper Daily Ibrat for almost 9 years. Veengas contributed her work as freelance at The Friday Times, Daily Times, Daily O Indian news outlet, The Wire Indian news outlet, Blogger Global Voices, The Frontier Post, worked as assistant editor (honorary) at regional English magazine published from Balochistan – it was challengeable journalistic work at conflict zone area but she did fearlessly work and some writings appeared in Urdu paper.
A book on Pakistan’s Troubled Minorities is a compilation of her work on Non-Muslims in Sindh, Pakistan, published in 2016 in India.
Veengas was born in Shikarpur city of Sindh and now based in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. Her name is originally Sindhi means a beautiful girl.
She earned a graduate degree in political science and Master's degree in History.
Now, Veengas launches her own digital news outlet in Sindhi and English.
