Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Covering video game news

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, my grandfather owned one so now I use it as a decoration item (but it still works)

How is social media changing news?

It's making them necessarily instantaneous. Shorter, more direct and easier to read news are the ones relevant nowadays

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

That one who gets paid a lot. What a fictional character he is!

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Working hard, getting low pay and enjoying what you are doing (like most of the jobs)

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

By mail.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

WordPress, Word, Excel, MemoQ

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter. Easy one.

Who do you wish followed you?

Any philosopher

Why did you become a journalist?

Because I love films, games and books

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

"Videogames are not art" since it's a philosophical text discussing the nature of the video game as a product.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Enjoy what you're doing because the pay is not high

When's the best time to pitch you?

Anytime in the morning

What's the best pitch you ever got?

I get pitched for covering random stuff like worktops or ovens. I think that's the craziest pitches I ever got.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

I got a pitch for covering a story about a poledancer who went viral because of falling from 3 metres high but was turning streamer

What's your favorite drink?

Gintonic. Seagrams with Schweppes.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

At a tennis court, of course

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

It used to be Kotaku or any publication where Jason Schreier gets to write

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

I don't cover viral stuff about gaming or eSports
