What was your first job as a journalist?
I was working as a freelance journalist while researching for a book project for one of my heroes late Indian journalist Kuldip Nayar.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes I must be ancient as I have done typing on a manual typewriter too.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Gonzo journalist Raoul Duke from the book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To bring to prominence the discomforting and unpalatable without fear or favour.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
Not a hashtag but the memoirs of Edward Behr (Anyone here raped and speaks English?) is hard to beat.
Why did you become a journalist?
I started as a journalist and do this off and on while wearing other hats such as a filmmaker, artist etc.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I went through various schools but none had a school newspaper.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
My eight year long project about ageing, a small part of it that I turned into newspaper articles in a largely youth-centric media space.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Choose your role models carefully. The likes of Webb Miller have contributed more than many with film bio-pics or a prominent byline.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I scan through most of the mainstream press but favourite reading is substacks of various senior journalists.
