Donovan 'Razor' Ruddock vs 'Smokin' Bert Cooper
I think Bowe to me was a sleeping elephant (no pun intended), when he was asleep you could pretty much do what you wanted (Cooper, Hide), when he woke up though he trampled everything in his path. I think fighters who are heavily critisized perform much better than fighters who are loved and coddled by the media. Bowe, as good as he was seemed to get his hands too dirty in each fight when he easily could have boxed from a safe distant ala Lewis.
Roberto Duran vs Juan Roldan
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Ken Ashcroft, . Who wins this middleweight battle? Jel, Richard M Murrieta and Jamal Perkins like this. Good match-up. Just to **** people off, I'll pick Roldan. JabbaTheGut, BoxxyMcBoxface, Richard M Murrieta and 2 others like this. It's a bit of a tough one but I'll go roldan by unanimous Dec.
Rocky Marciano Vs Mike Spinks
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Flea Man, . Heavyweight contest; who takes it? The awkward sharp shooting and odd combinations of Spinks befuddles and cuts Marciano, or the tenacious, accumulative punching of Marciano wears Spinks down? Both men have one shot power when they land right as well. If you feel a hypothetical light Heavyweight version of Spinks fares better with an extra ten lbs or so feel free to include this in your analysis.
Derrick Chisora vs John Ruiz
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by MarkusFlorez99, . Tough one. Could be a draw. I slightly favor Chisora. Either way it would be sloppy as hell. Assuming a fair fight where the rules are properly enforced against Ruiz's illegal holding tactics, and no other shenanigans by Don King's refs and judges, Chisora wins easily over that glorified clubfighter. David Tua vs Ray Mercer
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Vince Voltage, . An exciting matchup, in my opinion. Both dangerous but sometimes sluggish. I very slightly favor Tua, but can’t really decide. Mike Weaver vs. Trevor Berbick
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Vince Voltage, . This could be sloppy, exciting, or both. 12 rounds…who do you like? Your name or email address: Do you already have an account? No, create an account now. Yes, my password is: Stay logged in
Andrew Golota vs Max Baer
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by BrutalForeman, . Would Max Clown and KO Golota, or would Andrew have too many skills for Max ? Max would stop Gołota like most elite fighters would. Golota would actually do pretty good for a couple of rounds...using his superior left jab...but when Baer finally lands a big right hand, the Pole would wilt, then panic just before Maxie crushes him. The Golota from the Bowe fights destroys Baer. Too much skill, too much talent, too much man.
Bruno vs. Dokes
Maybe his power is overrated , but had it been compared to Shavers' and Liston's at least he would have turned out as the heaviest puncher of the 3. Compare the fighters that Shavers and Liston KOd to the fighters Bruno KOd and get the notion , unless you are one of the people here who think Norton , Young and Ellis were vastly superior HW fighters to Coetzee , Ferguson and Carl Williams
Bob Fitzimmons vs. Leon Spinks
I have already pushed a bureau in front of my door for protection. Who do you like here, prime vs. prime? I am going with Leon.
Mike Weaver vs Oscar Bonavena
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by richdanahuff, . Mike Weaver can outbox him, but can he last the distance? 10-12 or 15? That's the question. Surprisingly this is one that I don't recall seeing here before, though who knows what a search will dig up. I think this is any man's fight and certainly a crowd pleasing match by all standards. While both men were tough as nails I'm not sure I can see it lasting the distance due to the immense punishment they'd be dishing out and taking.
Bonavena vs Bugner
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Vince Voltage, . Who do you like here? Bugner is bigger, more patient and technical. Oscar is tough, wild, and strong as hell. Who wins? Why did Sugar Ramos go downhill so quickly?
Ramos was known to be struggling to make weight by that time, & Robertson made a point of extending the fight into the championship rnds by staying on the backfoot thru the 1st 9-10 rnds & saving up his energy for a big surge over the last 3rd of the fight. The strategy almost worked, but the early-mid rnd deficit may have been a bit too much to overcome.
James Douglas v Gerrie Coetzee
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Eye of Timaeus, . I've got Buster on points here in a good fight. Thoughts? Buster is the superior boxer ....but I don’t like his chin Bronze Tiger said: ↑ Buster is the superior boxer ....but I don’t like his chin Click to expand... Do you like his boobs? Bronze Tiger said: ↑ Buster is the superior boxer ....but I don’t like his chin Click to expand... That’s why I’m hesitant to pick him as well. Although I think he could win a decision over Coetzee.
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Vince Voltage, . I have them in the same order as my post title: 1) Haugen 2) Mancini 3) Paz What do you guys think? Haugen edged Camacho, which the other two couldn’t. He beat up Mancini. And in many people’s opinion, he beat Paz two out of three. Your name or email address: Do you already have an account? Otto Wallins Performance Was Shameful
I've seen more manning up from Claressa Shields.
Andrew Golota vs Razor Ruddock
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Vince Voltage, . This is a great fight in my opinion. Both were blown out early by Lewis. They are about the same size. Ruddock had more heart. Golota probably had better skills. Ruddock probably the harder puncher. Could go either way, but I’ll take Razor by late stoppage. Ruddock by early stoppage he'd catch Golota with something big early and Golota would fold under the pressure.
Andrew Golota vs. Nicolai Valuev
Golota at 6-4 would be sacrificing about 8 or 9 inch in height, and about 70 to 80lbs in weight, And a lot more in mental strength, and he Can't handle pressure OR adversity to save his life.. Valuev wouldn't even be seriously hurt in this fight, he had a chin of stone, and would either win by KO in the mid rounds, or by DQ, when Andy decides to use the giants nuts as a speed bag, either way Valuev wins..
Name 1 thing about your favorite fighter that dissapointed you
It's not a disappointment really, but it sucks that Joe Louis tanked in his first fight with Walcott. It's the only win of his career that is close to being controversial. In the three losses and bunch of draws that occurred very early in Carlos Monzon's career, he avenged all but I think it is one or two of them. Would have been cool had he avenged every single one of those early blemishes.

Frank Bruno vs Michael Moorer 1996 Unification bout
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Gatekeeper, . Alternative Scenario : Bruno rather than face Tyson in his first defence has a tuneup fight against a journey man in early 96, he then has a unification bout with IBF champion Michael Moorer in August/September at Wembley Stadium with the winner of that fight facing Tyson. Who wins ? I would have bruno the slight favorite. Moorer had power to hurt bruno but not enouh to take him out with one shot.
Could the Ali of Spinks 2 have done anything to Holmes?
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Melankomas, . Would it be competitive? Would Ali even potentially win? Make Holmes work a bit harder, that’s about it. Do nothing but hold, be praised as a genius, and win by UD. Your name or email address: Do you already have an account? No, create an account now. Yes, my password is: Stay logged in
Dillian Whyte vs Tommy Morrison primes (New poll)
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Devon, . Morrison, except for a weak chin, was, according to foreman and lewis, an extremely talented fighter, and when sober, was a real threat. Dillian Whyte is a decent fighter with a good record in kickboxing 1 MMA fight which he won and by todays standard a decent boxing record. I think it would be a very entertaining fight, where Whyte would hurt the Duke for a moment before he get blasted out. Morrison KO 8.
Greg Haugen vs. Danny Garcia at 140
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Vince Voltage, . As we all know, Haugen was as rugged as they come. He also had good boxing skills and wasn't just a rough and tumble brawler. That being said, the 140 pound version of Danny Garcia was a very talented fighter who really knew what he was doing in the ring. Combine that with his underrated toughness and I gave Garcia a win by 10-5 or 8-4 decision. Your name or email address: Do you already have an account? No, create an account now.
is Dubois still the best candidate to beat Usyk?
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Mister Pugilist, . especially with the controversial low blow Kabayel would beat Dubois just you wait and see I’d still like to see Dubois get in a few defenses to keep improving. No need to rush back into an Usyk fight. Nah Usyk kicked his ass Fury is still the biggest threat to Usyk. Father time will beat Usyk now His story has been completed pending Fury rematch where Fury will level the score. He will retire in December with Fury.
Max Baer vs. Oscar Bonavena
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Vince Voltage, . Prime for prime, who takes it? bonavena for sure,i would bet for him I think, as much as I love Max Baer, that Oscar would have an excellent chance of pulling an upset if he fought Max the way he did George Chuvalo.

Ossie Ocasio vs. Leon Spinks
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Vince Voltage, . The Fight of the Century. How would this play out, at cruiserweight and at heavyweight? Both at peak condition, I'll take Spinks. I think that Ocasio will struggle a bit with Leon's very own brand of awkward aggression, and Ossie doesn't have the sort of power to make Spinks burn out. Your name or email address: Do you already have an account? No, create an account now. Yes, my password is: Stay logged in
Tell me about Ossie Ocasio...
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Bronze Tiger, . I’m planning on watching some of his fights over the weekend. What are your thoughts of him as a fighter? A cruiserweight pioneer. Good fighter but nothing special. I got to watch them close up confuse, bemuse and frustrate a novice (as a pro) Lennox Lewis for eight rounds. Cute was the word. He maybe shared a round, but was never in trouble and I suspect Lewis missed more punches in that fight, than he did in any other.
Kallie Knoetze vs. Bernardo Mercado
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Vince Voltage, . Okay you heavyweight-loving nerds, who would win between these two bombers? Both had a 74% ko average but on ring record, quality of opponent & height the edge has to lean towards Mercado. Knoetzes right hand bolo punch was a telling factor right up to the last minute of each match when they ended. Both would have been one or other world champion titlist in this era. Best thread in ages. Knoetze would bestride this era as a Goliath.
Big John Tate vs James "Buster" Douglas
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by mr. magoo, . Let's say the Douglas of the Tyson fight vs Tate who fought Coetzee. Quite a bit in common between these two. Both men were 6'4" and who's weight ranged all over the place. Against Coetzee Tate was 240 lbs, while Douglas scaled in at around 231 for Tyson. James was 29 years of age and Tate was 24 against Coetzee I believe. Both men were rangy boxer types who could crack when they had to and both had questionable durability.
Just how bad was Kevin McBride
He would have crashed to the canvas spectacularly if he'd been one of the early tyson fights. Wouldn't have got past the second

Oleg Maskaev Appreciation Thread
Boxed Ears said: ↑ Now, here's a story about Oleg Maskaev. In the early 1990's, he ran down to New Orleans, and I saw him at a big tollgate down there, you know. The light shone in his eyes like a reflection of God on a small, Mexican woman's toaster. I could tell he was hot, so hot, with anticipation and furious anger. As he picked up steam, he told the tollgate man he had livestock, Russian mules, etc, all livestock.
Joe Frazier vs Ernie Shavers
I think Shavers would have won it like Foreman did.....

90s Heavyweight match up: Riddick Bowe vs Shannon Briggs
Bowe hit harder than Lewis?? Not sure about that. I'm sure Holyfield personally liked Bowe better than Lennox, and also had a victory over Bowe. So that might have played into him saying Bowe hit harder. Bowe v.s Briggs would be action packed. A brawl wouldn't take too long to break out, but Bowe puts him away in 5-6. Bowes chin would survive the early storm and his size, strength and superior skills would put Briggs on his face or a*s eventually. Bowe tko 5 or 6
Andy Ruiz vs James Toney
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Vince Voltage, . Both at their best, I think it’s a good fight. Who do you like? Ruiz would have beat everybody Toney fought, Toney would have struggled with a few of Ruiz`s opponents, the win over AJ is better than any win Toney had at heavyweight. If Toney shows up at his best, he'd be 160lbs, but if he shows up in the shape he was for Jirov or Holyfield, Toney wins handily.
Ali vs Spinks - Who would have won a deciding rubber match?
If Spinks was to get into good shape he would've beaten Ali pretty decisively maybe by a late stoppage. If he didn't it Ali might be able to squeeze out a decision. This would be the worst heavyweight trilogy next Holyfield vs Ruiz. Last edited: Apr 20, 2019
Pipino Cuevez vs Wilfred Benetiz
stonehammerjack said: ↑ Cuevas KO in 1 or 2 with a minimum of punches. Cuevas was a brutal slaughterer in his prime who threw a lot faster and from different angels than expected. Cuevas just runs over wilfred like a tank Click to expand... :huh Benitez isn't going to just stand there and let Pipino T off. Benitez had incredible defense. People make too much of the Curry scare I have seen Benitez/Curry I and Wilfred was obviously overconfident against a relatively unknown Curry.
Francois Botha's Training Regimen (Prime)
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Seamus, . Anyone have insights on his training regimen around the time of the Moorer fight? Been trying to contact Soderstrom to no avail. I need this for the final part of my doctorate thesis. National Geographic did an article on this in the 90's. You should be able to find it on microfilm in the library. Unforgiven and Big Ukrainian like this. It was modern as ****. Very modern. Very feel. Nutrition was good. Poolside. BBQ. Roids. Spar. Rest. Watch the Rugger.
Liston and Louis' friendship
Liston seriously idolised and wanted to emulate Joe - so that might’ve played it’s own significant part in drawing Joe to Liston. I don’t know about blaming Liston for Joe’s addiction(s), there were other features to Joe’s life that conceivably drove him to the drugs anyway - IRS debt and addiction to pain killers to name two.
Manuel Charr vs Jarrell Miller in the works
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Chuck Norris, . This fight may accomplish something, namely the overdue retirement of Charr, and the reestablishment of Miller as a contender. But it’s no title fight. I reckon we’ll get miller vs whyte after this which is a fun fight Be still my beating heart.... Orzubek Nazarov thoughts
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by PhillyPhan69, . So, I really only know him by name and the Joey Gamache fight...can you guys school me on him? Anyone remember him? What are your thoughts and estimation of him as a fighter! mirkofilipovic and George Crowcroft like this. Borderline great. Very skillful. Atg chin. Sexy Tasche, nice power, criminally under-rated Broke the hearts of an arena full of Maine fans when he wrecked Gamache.
is lucas browne the greatest overachiever (at least in modern times)???
sure, he was on roids when he beat chagaev…...but think About it: the guy was a Rugby Player and a bouncer. he didnt have an amteur Background, just had a few fights in mma. turned pro at 30. he is one of those typical guys you have Walking into gyms worldwide: Bodybuilder types that work as bouncers and think that cause they are tough on the street that they can fight. then you put them in with a guy half their size….…...and they get absolutely tooled!! usually, the dont come back.
