What was your first job as a journalist?

Intern and later freelance writer for the Bangalore edition of The Hindu.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

A faithful observer on behalf of a/the community.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

A concise brief, word-count and deadline.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

MS Office, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, Wordpress, Twitter, Facebook...

Why did you become a journalist?

To change the world; then I was still young and needed a way to demonstrate idealism. (I know better now!)

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

For my college magazine(s), yes. I wrote, copyedited and, in one instance, even sat in an old press composing pages.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Journalism can't change the world. It can only inform it.

What's your favorite drink?

Beer.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

With a book, newspaper or magazine.
