Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
Assistant Editor at Americas, an international cultural magazine published by the Organization of American States.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, I started out that way. Thank goodness for computers.
How is social media changing news?
It has become the sole source of news for many people, unfortunately.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
By email.
What's your favorite social network?
Instagram and Twitter.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No, we did not have a school newspaper.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
A daily journal on a two-week cruise to Antarctica for CruiseCritic.com: https://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=3494&cache=reset
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
One that was full of exaggerations and mistruths. Big no-no.
What's your favorite drink?
Arnold Palmer
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
On the road exploring the world, my favorite thing to do.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That it is all fun and games. Travel journalism gets a bad rap as being all puff pieces, whereas it actually requires serious reporting.
