1 Introduction By introducing periodic changes in climatic conditions and resource availability, season profoundly shapes the feeding ecology, behavior, and physiological adaptations of animals. To secure sufficient nutrients, mammals have evolved a range of behavioral and physiological strategies, including altered feeding behaviors, shifts in activity patterns, migration, and fat accumulation (Fryxell and Sinclair 1988; Mercer 1998; Marshall and Wrangham 2007; Hsiung et al. 2018).
