John Collins
John Collins’s Biography
I am the son of two teachers and the grandson of two teachers. Education and the dissemination of information was always stressed at an early age.
I shared my name, John N. Collins with a serial killer for the first two decades of my life. He later changed his name due to the negative connotations attached to it.
My B.A. is in Sociology with a concentration in Spanish. My first job that involved Photography and reporting was a Child Protective Services Worker for the State of Michigan. This involved the investigation of child abuse claims, documentation of the investigation, and intervention where necessary.
My first professional credentials were from the Mardi Gras Guide when I was working as the assistant photographer to Syndey Byrd, the winner of the 2010 Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities Photographer of the year for her work in Documentary Photography. Ms. Byrd had apprenticed under Austrian Photojournalist Ernst Haas who was ranked in the top ten photographers in the world along with Ansel Adams and others.
I am known for my photography and interviews. My photos can be found in the homes of actors, writers, and other entertainment professionals. My interviews include writers, producers, directors, actors, musicians, cosplayers, event organizers, and others that were of interest.
To date my most popular photo is one that Will Ferrell got from my website and posted on his Facebook Fan Page - https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=10150701913590439&set=a.447818410438.231960.27111825438&type=3&theater Which came from my article "Will just wants to have fun" which I wrote after the 2012 Bacchus Parade - http://weirdreview.com/2012/02/20/bacchus/
