Abstract The growing importance of CSR has fueled extensive research on its link to firm risk, yet little attention has been given to how home-country CSR ratings shape this relationship, particularly for foreign firms listed on U.S. exchanges. 1 INTRODUCTION For decades, lenders have assessed the five Cs of credit—character, capacity, capital, conditions, and collateral—to gauge the creditworthiness of potential borrowers. As one of the most critical factors, the character component helps lenders determine whether a borrower is willing to repay the loan. In lending practices, lenders strongly consider providing loans to borrowers who pass the character hurdle (Melnick, 2021).
Abstract We examine the impact of bank risk-taking and performance on the director labor market outcomes of 3,263 bank directors associated with 279 publicly listed US banks during the financial crisis and subsequently. We find that risk-taking before the financial crisis increases the likelihood of turnover during the financial crisis for bank directors, particularly if the bank does not perform well relative to its peers.
