Theory of Water Filtration
This article briefly summarizes certain aspects of filtration theory, and outlines the framework for a conceptual model for the filtration process. Water filtration is generally considered to include both physical and chemical phenomena. Experimental evidence related to the chemical aspects of water filtration is presented and discussed.
THE SOLUBILITY OF FERROUS IRON IN CARBONATE‐BEARING WATERS
Since the solubility of ferrous iron in groundwaters is limited by the solubility of ferrous carbonate and since the 50-year-old solubility product cannot account for the high concentrations of Fe(II) found in natural groundwaters, this study was undertaken in order to redetermine the solubility product of ferrous carbonate and to determine what effect, if any, complexation of Fe(II) by bicarbonate or carbonate has on the overall solubility of Fe(II). Experimental results are discussed.

Mechanism of Hydrogen Ion Buffering in Natural Waters
The objective of this study was to provide a comprehensive, integrated concept of the nature and interplay of capacity factors of the principal buffer systems indigenous to freshwaters. Fundamental acid-base equilibria pertinent to natural waters were examined in detail, with particular emphasis on a rigorous quantitative interpretation of the CO2- HC03--C03- system. A graphic method is presented of chemical equilibria.
