Texas West Plains IPM: Critical Period for All Crops, Keep Scouting Fields
Photo: Texas AgriLife Extension Cotton ranges from just beginning to bloom with more than 6 nodes above white flower (NAWF) to past physiological cutout with 2 NAWF. Using our IPM scouting fields as a representation of area cotton crop, we see that 68% of fields have reached physiological cutout (<5 NAWF) this week. For those fields we need approximately 400 more heat units (HU) to accumulate to be safe from bollworms.
Texas Cotton: When Can You Shut Off Irrigation?
Photo: Chuck Wilbur, Crop Consultant, Texas-Oklahoma I know many are wondering when they can start backing off and even shutting down irrigation water over the next few weeks. Again, the nodes above white flower (NAWF) measurement can be extremely helpful. This will let you know where your current top boll position is and how old previously set bolls are. Biofuels: Department of Energy Recommendation on RFS Exemption Requests
Reuters writer Stephanie Kelly reported this week that, “The U.S. Department of Energy has recommended that some of the oil refiners that applied for retroactive exemptions from the nation’s biofuel blending law be granted partial relief, two sources familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.
DTN Livestock Midday: Livestock Contracts Scale Lower
Cattle feeding. Photo: ©Debra L Ferguson Thursday hasn’t granted the cattle contracts any support in continuing their upward trend, and has suppressed the lean hog contracts in the process. General Comments Heading into Thursday’s afternoon trade, the livestock contracts are losing their strength and have turned to mostly lower trade. Cash cattle trade is getting a little more attention as packers and feeders seem to be finding some middle ground in Iowa on a small test.
