A Concord Carpenter
By Ben Carmichael False Albacore Fly Fishing During the Martha’s Vineyard Derby New England fall — the season of leaves, apple cider donuts, the fall migration, and the Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby. The Derby — which, after 73 years is, like Bono or Cher, known simply as “The Derby” — captivates the island, its tourists… Continue reading »
A Concord Carpenter
A little backstory for you all. I backed my way into writing for ACC simply by following the website. I got a newsletter that inquired for new “Tool Reviewers”, and I pounced on the opportunity. See, as a full-time, professional contractor, I have obsessed over every tool and product purchase I have made. They are investments in my company, and ones that I demand the highest in quality and performance.
Hitachi 50cc Chainsaw Review - Tool Box Buzz
During the colder months, I almost entirely heat my house with wood fire. This past winter, my everyday chainsaw was stolen out of my garage. While I initially went on a tirade about how much I hate thieves (that hasn’t changed), I still had the issue of replacing my saw. Hitachi was gracious enough to send their 50cc chainsaw to try out and for the past several months, I have been putting it to the test. The Hitachi CS51EAP comes with a steel spring type anti vibration system.
DeWalt 20V Max PEX Expander Review - Tool Box Buzz
Let’s get this out of the way. Milwaukee has dominated the mechanical trade tools market for years. They have been the first-to-market and have offered a large variety of tools geared towards plumbers, electricians and HVAC contractors while most of the other major players in tool manufacturing have focused on other trades. Several months ago, the yellow brand decided to ante-up and enter this market offering the Dewalt 20V Max PEX Expander.
Hitachi A5 Series Framing Nailer
Within the last decade or so, tool companies have stepped up their game to push the boundaries of cordless technology, safety features, and user experience with their tool lineups. While this has been fantastic for us tool user’s, sometimes a step back is necessary. The old adage “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” still rings true.
Bosch Brute Tough 36V Hammer Drill / Driver HDH361 - Tool Box Buzz
Bosch has recently released the Bosch Brute Tough 36V Hammer Drill / Driver HDH361 to their 36v lineup. I have been using it for several months on site and have been able to take a very close look. Drill/drivers and impact drivers are likely the first cordless tools people in the trades buy. Their versatility and usefulness warrant their priority level. This purchase usually dictates the battery platform that the user continues with as well.
Milwaukee FUEL 2863 High Torque Impact Wrench Review - Tool Box Buzz
As a professional carpenter and general contractor, I have always done my due diligence when making tool purchases. I look to find tools that offer the highest versatility and value while also being able to hold up to the harsh, job site environment. When Milwaukee introduced their new FUEL High Torque Impact Wrench with ONE-KEY™, I was originally intrigued with the idea of cord-free vehicle and equipment maintenance.
DeWalt FLEXVOLT 7-1/4” Cordless Worm Drive Style Saw - Tool Box Buzz
The first tool I ever truly loved was a SkilSaw Mag 77. My father (whom inspired me to get into the trades and still work with today) gave me one when I was still a “green” framer. It was about 20 years old and absolutely beat to hell, but it worked perfectly. I still own that saw even though it has, sadly, since been retired. I have always been a bit nostalgic (and admittedly biased) towards worm drive saws, but one thing that no one can take away from them is their pure power and durability.
