I had always hated how busy the cafe got in the afternoon, it is always pleasant in the mornings though, the passing workers and early birds but instead her I am, sat among crying children and the promising bricklayers of tomorrow.

William Maxwell, the 'Wisest, Kindest' Writer
The odor, if it was an odor, came from the other end of the attic, Mr. Tupper decided. He was looking about for a long wooden croquet box which had certain of his possessions in it--his Knights Templar sword, the works of Ingersoll, and an album of pressed flowers from the Holy Land. They Came Like Swallows
(Fiction; Vintage, 1997; 1st ed.
