Three Books: Lydia Denworth ’88 on Friendship and Loneliness
Lydia Denworth ’88 is a science journalist whose 2020 book Friendship: The Evolution, Biology, and Extraordinary Power of Life’s Fundamental Bond examines the foundations of friendship. Delving into neuroscience and biology, she shows why connectedness is critical for our health and sense of well-being and why it should be at the top of our priority lists.
"Demographic, Personality and Nonverbal Perception Correlates of Commun" by William Patrick Neal
Abstract The general purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of demographic, personality and nonverbal perception variables to communication sensitivity. The examination concerned the relative linearity or non-linearity and the statistical significance of each relationship. The specific purpose of this study was to establish the concurrent validity of the UNM Conversation Self-Report Inventory.

Identifying merged clusters in the ATLAS strip detector
Tracking in high density environments, particularly in high energy jets, plays an important role in many physics analyses at the LHC. In such environments, there is degradation of track reconstruction performance in ATLAS due to hit-merging in the pixel and strip detectors. We present a new algorithm for determining which strip clusters come from multiple particles. The performance of this technique is found to be competitive with the existing algorithm for identifying merged pixel clusters.
The Drug Hunters Audiobook
The search to find medicines is as old as disease, which is to say as old as the human race. Through serendipity - by chewing, brewing, and snorting - some Neolithic souls discovered opium, alcohol, snakeroot, juniper, frankincense, and other helpful substances. Ötzi the Iceman, the 5,000-year-old hunter frozen in the Italian Alps, was found to have whipworms in his intestines and Bronze Age medicine, a worm-killing birch fungus, knotted to his leggings.
Pixel-Cluster Counting Luminosity Measurement In ATLAS
A precision measurement of the delivered luminosity is a key component of the ATLAS physics program at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). A fundamental ingredient of the strategy to control the systematic uncertainties affecting the absolute luminosity has been to compare the measure- ments of several luminometers, most of which use more than one counting technique.

Luckiest Girl Alive: A Novel
Ani FaNelli seems to have it all: a glamorous job at a glossy magazine, an enviable figure with the wardrobe to match, and a handsome fiancé from a distinguished blue-blood family. But Ani FaNelli is an invention, that veneer of perfection carefully assembled in an attempt to distance herself from a shocking, sordid past. As her wedding draws near, a documentary producer invites Ani to speak about the chilling incident that took place when she was a teenager at the prestigious Bradley School.
