Pellioditis pelhamensis n. sp. (Nematoda: Rhabditidae) and Pellioditis pellio (Schneider, 1866), earthworm associates from different subclades within Pellioditis (syn. Phasmarhabditis Andrássy, 1976) (pdf) | Paperity
PLOS ONE, Sep 2023 Recently, much attention has been focused on a group of rhabditid nematodes called Phasmarhabditis, a junior synonym of Pellioditis, as a promising source of biocontrol agents for invasive slugs. Pellioditis pelhamensis n. sp. was first isolated from earthworms near Pelham Bay Park in Bronx, New York, USA, in 1990 and has been found to be pathogenic to slugs as well as some earthworms. It has also been used in several comparative developmental studies.

Beyond DNA barcoding: the species description of the nematode Caenorhabditis monodelphis includes its whole genome sequence - BMC Series blog
DNA barcoding is now a standard part of the biodiversity toolkit. Nearly 20 years ago, the idea arose – simultaneously in several groups – that advances in DNA sequencing might make it possible to identify species cheaply and efficiently using small parts of their genomes. Despite early scepticisms, the DNA barcoding movement, driven by Paul Hebert and colleagues at the Biodiversity Institute of Ontario, has been a runaway success.
Nematodes enhance plant growth and nutrient uptake under C and N-rich conditions
Reconstructing soil foodwebs have been widely employed by soil ecologists to investigate soil ecological processes5,19. If soil sterilization is used, quantitative extraction and reinoculation of microorganisms are crucial to reconstruct soil foodwebs successfully. However, quantitative extraction of representative microbial communities is challenging as they are strongly attached to the soil particles30.
