Xavier Frere’s Biography

From local journalist to senior reporter*, covering music and sport, from an agricultural show in Haut-Doubs to a jihadist zone in the Sahel or Obama and the Stones' visit to Cuba, my unusual career path reflects worlds that coexist without knowing each other.

A constant balancing act between the street corner and the other side of the world, to better understand the challenges facing our fractured societies today. A growing divide.

I have interviewed homeless people and billionaires, victims of terrorist attacks and parents of jihadists, ministers and prisoners, yellow vests, handball champions and international rock stars... Behind a status, a reputation, a job, a profession, what I tell are first and foremost the stories of women and men.

This versatility, combined with my mastery of social media and the ongoing AI revolution, is an asset, without forgetting my areas of expertise: geopolitics, terrorism, extremism, defence... and imposture.

After years devoted to the daily timing of news, I now prefer to take my time : a forthcoming book/investigation (published by Grasset), documentary and series projects, while remaining available for collaborations, reports and media and journalism-related interventions.

  • 12 years for L'Est Républicain then 12 years for the ten daily newspapers of the EBRA group.
