Xavier Vasques is the IBM France Systems Hardware’s Technical Director and Mathematician and Head of Laboratoire de Recherche en Neurosciences Cliniques in France. The LRENC scientific goal is the development and use of fundamental science such as mathematics, neuroscience and medicine to apply to different scales of the brain. IBM Systems Hardware goal is to design architectures for cognitive business with analytics acceleration and data centric design build with collaborative innovation and delivered through hybrid cloud platform.
In 2005, Xavier received his Master's Degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Pierre et Marie Curie co-habilited Ecole Normale Supérieure and Ecole Polytechnique (France). In 2008, Xavier received his Master’s Degree in Engineering (Computer Science) from the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers (France) and his Ph.D. in Neurosciences from the Montpellier Faculty of Medicine, France (INSERM : U661, CNRS : UMR 5253). During his PhD, he investigated the mechanism of action of deep brain stimulation in the treatment of movement disorders syndromes.
Xavier started his professional career at AXA Bank (6 months, training period, Paris La Défense) as mathematician in 2005. In 2008, Xavier worked in the High Performance Computing and Data Analysis areas since joining the IBM Deep Computing Europe and the IBM Innovation Lab in Montpellier, France. Since 2012, Xavier has held several managerial roles within IBM Systems and Technology Group: IBM Montpellier Innovation Lab (collaborative R&D projects), IBM Montpellier Independent Software Vendor Solutions Center (Advanced Technical Skill Europe) and IBM Montpellier z Systems Solutions Analytics and Showcases (Advanced Technical Skill Europe).
Xavier joined the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland as Manager of both the Data Analysis section and the Brain Atlasing section for the Blue Brain Project and the European Union funded Human Brain Project in the Neuroinformatics division.
