Abstract The global incidence and mortality of nontuberculous mycobacterial infections have risen sharply with population aging. In some regions, they are now surpassing Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex infections, imposing a substantial clinical and economic burden.

Introduction. Resistance to rifampin (RIF) in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection is associated with mutations in the rpoB gene coding for the β-subunit of RNA polymerase. The contribution of various rpoB mutations to the development and level of RIF resistance remains elusive. Hypothesis/Gap Statement. Various rpoB mutations may be associated with differential levels of RIF resistance. Aim.

On the Importance of Chemical Precision in Organic Electronics: Fullerene Intercalation in Perfectly Alternating Conjugated Polymers
1 Introduction Due to the near-infinite number of possible structures and the large toolbox available to synthetic chemists, organic semiconductors (either polymers or small molecules) offer an unrivaled broad tunability for many materials and device parameters.[1] Semiconducting polymers are commonly used in optoelectronic devices, such as organic light-emitting diodes,[2] photovoltaics (OPVs),[3] transistors,[4] or photodetectors (OPDs),[5] and also applied in healthcare[6, 7] and...

Enhancement of Graphene Phonon Excitation by a Chemically Engineered Molecular Resonance
Abstract The abstraction of pyrrolic hydrogen from a single phthalocyanine on graphene turns the molecule into a sensitive probe for graphene phonons. The inelastic electron transport measured with a scanning tunneling microscope across the molecular adsorbate and graphene becomes strongly enhanced for a graphene out-of-plane acoustic phonon mode. Supporting density functional and transport calculations elucidate the underlying physical mechanism.

Prediction of Mycobacterium tuberculosis drug resistance by nucleotide MALDI-TOF-MS
Abstract Objective To evaluate the performance of nucleotide matrix-assisted laser desorption/Ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) for predicting the drug resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). Methods 115 Rifampin-resistant and 53 susceptible TB clinical isolates were randomly selected from TB strains stored at -80°C in the clinical laboratory in Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital (SPH).
