A Love Letter to East Falls
It has been an interesting and lively three years with you. I’d like to say you’ve seen me through it all. While I haven’t had the craziest life-changing undergraduate career here, you have beared witness to my biggest growths and reflections – after all, I am definitely not the 18-year-old girl from 3 years ago. I am a lot more mature, more focused, less preoccupied with my self-image and perhaps a little less timid.
Recording? Ugh, I’m so Over it
This is going to sound like a real boomer take, but I hate the recording culture that has taken the world by storm. I’m talking about concerts, vlogs, aurora borealis, firework shows – anything impermanent and fleeting. The other day, I attended Philadelphia’s Cherry Blossom Festival on April 6. It was a little chilly and the sky looked a little dreary, but the lively performances and colorful trees that rained down a slurry of petals more than made up for it.

2nd Anniversary: How I Managed a Relationship in College
So, my anniversary is March 25, and this year, it will be my second anniversary with this man that I’ve dated thus far. I will be frank and say that this relationship has not always been sunshine and rainbows, and as my first ever relationship, I learned a lot.

Cave Diving - My YouTube Rabbit Hole
I don’t know if it has just been me, or what, but my YouTube suddenly suggested cave diving videos! I say that, but in reality, I looked up one incident and suddenly my entire front page is filled with cave diving videos. And when I get into something, I find it hard to stop watching to learn more and get deeper in the concept. Tunnel vision is real.
My Favorite Restaurants on Jefferson’s Center City Campus
I am down at Thomas Jefferson University’s Center City campus twice a week for work. And sometimes, I don’t pack lunch. As a commuter who is trying to save money, I typically pack leftovers from last night’s dinner, but it’s not always possible.
My Night in Northeast Philadelphia
Just to preface: This is a reflection of my experiences. I’m not trying to promote any agenda – I simply want an outlet to share my experiences regarding the event that happened on January 31, 2025, in Northeast Philadelphia. I have lived in the Northeast my entire life – all 21 years of it. My cousins and grandparents all decided to settle down here after immigrating from China and so I would say that a good chunk of my family’s history is based here.

Exploiting thiolate/disulfide redox couples toward large-scale electrochemical carbon dioxide capture and release
Exploiting thiolate/disulfide redox couples toward large-scale electrochemical carbon dioxide capture and release Reducing global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions is a critical issue that requires sustainable, energy-efficient and scalable solutions.
Jumping on the Crochet Bandwagon
Over this past winter break, I learned how to crochet! I have seen the craze and the hype around crocheting booming over the past few years. People in my high school were selling their crochet items at art fairs! (I bought one and thought they were overpriced). Others walked in with their crochet clothing! And this one girl crocheted mini beanies for babies in the NICU for her senior project! Ever since the pandemic and quarantine, I watched as crocheting content kept on growing and growing.
Academic Papers Galore!
Growing up, I was what you could call a “bookworm.” While I didn’t always have my head stuck in a book, it was quite obvious in school that I liked to read for fun.
Which Research Technique/Tool are You According to Your Zodiac Sign?
Have you ever wondered which research lab-related thing you are according to your zodiac? Here is a very odd and existential horoscope with vague allegories and satire. Aries – Animal Work Working with animals is no joke. There are so many training and regulations for you to even become certified. Then comes the “part” which might involve harvesting or other experimentations conducted on such organisms. Regardless, it requires assertiveness and a level of detachedness to properly work in this field.
So, I turned 21..!
I turned 21 last week and it was both underwhelming, yet comfortable to me. See, I am quite the sheltered 21-year-old. I live with my parents while attending university, I don’t typically go out, and I don’t think I’ve ever been in a club before – safe for 18 or not. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I’m naive to the world, but I feel like I don’t have the freedom that is afforded to students living on campus or away from home.
Conferences and Inaugurations
I went to my first conference last Monday and Tuesday! The 7th annual Translational Research in Mitochondria, Aging, and Disease (TriMAD) conference was held in Rochester this year – meaning a whole 6-hour drive from Philadelphia. Being on a car ride with your PI, mentor, and lab manager was sure quite an experience. They were lovely company, but the length of the ride made me more susceptible to dozing off periodically.
Academia vs. Industry: Why I’m Going Where I’m Going
Yesterday, while I was driving home from my last class of the day, I glanced over at the sidewalk. I saw a couple of students, but one figure stood out to me: a short woman with her dark hair tied back into a low ponytail. She reminded me of someone from high school and I could have sworn she waved at me in my car as I bore holes into her silhouette but my eyesight can only carry me so far. Then my attention fell to the man beside her- her opposite.
Same Campus, New Year, Small Details
The 2024-25 School Year has begun, and I am once again back on the East Falls Campus! It is now my third and final year on this campus, I have been reflecting on my time here, feeling a little reminiscent. There have been many changes to this campus, and it makes me wonder how my underclassmen have experienced their first year differently from me.

My Family's New Pastime
Over the past week, my mom has developed a new hobby: cooking outdoors. With the nice weather and all, she decided to pull a grill I did not even know existed out of our garage. With a brand-new grill and with minimal experience, she set out on her grilling journey with me and my brother in tow. Safe to say, our first time was a total disaster. I came home from classes one day to find her in the backyard, throwing coals into the grill.

A Reflection on Applications
Late March and early April is a universal time of stress, happiness, and tears as it is when decisions for applications come out. College or any other higher education applications are a rough process to go through and require much research and a level of commitment that almost feels scary. Recently, “Ivy Day,” revealed to prospective students worldwide about their acceptance to an Ivy League in the United States. This day is especially unforgiving with rejections and acceptances flying in.

A Flowery Spring Break
Here on the East Coast, the weather has been phenomenal. It has been so great that the trees are starting to turn pink and grow leaves already! The tulips in front of my house have grown buds! And the weather has been consistently hitting the 60s or higher during my spring break. This is amazing! However, I do remind myself that almost a year ago exactly, it was snowing.
A Review of Cafes Near Jefferson East Falls
I have made a goal for myself to visit more restaurants/cafes or just general food places for either the vibe or simply to try new food. Now that I am a college student that has someone who will always go with me to try new cafes, I’ve been slowly accomplishing this goal. So, here is a list of a couple of cafes that I visited in my sophomore year of college near East Falls. 1.
Valentines After Lunar - 2024 Love Predictions
Wednesday, February 14, 2024 — AKA Valentine’s Day. Just 4 days after Lunar New Year, I am faced with another big holiday – a day in which love is celebrated and displayed. As a way to commemorate both of the big events happening within a week of one another, I wanted to research the 2024 love fortunes for the Chinese Zodiac signs. This combines my Chinese culture and the western Valentine’s Day. RAT – Don’t rush the process! This year is pretty unlucky for people born under the year of the rat.
My Matcha Love
I’ve never been a huge coffee drinker. Maybe it has something to do with cocoa – I don’t like chocolate either. The taste of it is too bitter to me and no amount of sweetener nor milk can make it taste appealing to me. If I desperately needed the energy and were forced to drink it, then I would drink it for the energy only – not the taste. Some people drink coffee solely for the taste, which is a little baffling to me.
TEMU: My mother’s new addiction
My mother is a big shopper. She has apps on her phone that reward her for shopping, too! Apps like Fetch, or even simpler apps for certain stores like Target, maximize her spending habits by giving her cashback or even lucrative coupons. It’s this habit – or should I say hobby – of hers that makes her an avid Black Friday shopper. Throughout the years and as technology has progressed, many more websites and apps have been created. Sites like Temu and Wish have saturated the market with cheap items.
My Recent Secret to “Productive” Procrastinating
Procrastination. It’s something that everybody does – and if you hear even the smart kids try to deny it, they are lying. Human nature has programmed individuals to lose focus on tasks, feel overwhelmed by tasks, or even simply lose the motivation for an activity for some other reason. For some, relaxing or sleeping is the best way to pass the time or simply put off the task until your brain is ready to handle it again.
Research on Influencing Factors and Driving Path of BIM Application in Construction Projects Based on the SD Model in China
1. Introduction 1.1. Research Background With the continuous development of the economy, people’s demands for architecture continue to increase. Therefore, in the construction process of construction projects, more and more factors are considered, and the amount of engineering information carried by the construction project itself is also increasing [1].
The Zombie Apocalypse is Here and I’m Stuck at TJU!
Inspired by games such as The Last of Us and Dying Light 2, I started to wonder about how a zombie apocalypse would look like on the East Falls Campus. Especially with all the nice autumnal colors in the trees, the crisp air, and the clothing that I have been wearing lately, my brain registers this time as the prime time for the onset of an upcoming apocalypse. Whether overrun by zombies, or fungi, what would happen to this beautiful campus? On Fridays, it is quite still on this campus.
My Go-To Nap Spots
You’ve seen “Best study spots on campus” or “Best dining halls” or maybe even “Best date spots on campus” (actually I haven’t seen that one, yet), but are you ready for my go-to nap spots? To preface, this list is subjective, therefore I dare not label this as the “best” of course. However, I will give you mine.
Winning Raffles is Easy
In my freshman year, I won a raffle. Then, I won two more in my sophomore year. Thomas Jefferson University always holds an involvement fair within the first few weeks of classes where many student clubs attempt to recruit people into their program. These students would stop at nothing to attract attention to their club. From offering free food, and stickers to even holding raffles or challenges to win big prizes as a reward for their interest. The whole event is a goldmine for any college student.

My Advice to an Incoming Freshman to Jefferson
Now that I have gone through 1 year of college at Thomas Jefferson University, I can say that I am somewhat qualified to advise any freshman coming to Jefferson as well as general tips for college students. While some of this advice may be hyper-specific to the East Falls campus and maybe even major-specific (health sciences), I will try to keep it as inclusive as possible.

The Time my Allergies Helped me get an A on my Exam
Recently, my seasonal allergies have flared up and I have felt exponentially worse. My mother claims that it’s due to the sudden heat. Itchy eyes that are hard to keep open, congestion clogging up my nose making me pant and pulling my face mask into my mouth, runny nose and the loud sniffling that comes with it, and the constant sneezing. I don’t mind these symptoms, but as a student with exams, the symptoms are louder than they are inconvenient.
4 Harmless Pranks to Perform at Jefferson
What a fun holiday! April Fools’ is supposed to be a day filled with laughter and embarrassment. Neither should come from a place of extreme shame, guilt, or any negative feelings for that matter. That means that pranks should be generally harmless.
Why Am I Waking Up Earlier?
Multiple times this week, I have had the misfortune of waking up before my alarm. Before my brother even left the house to go to school. At 6:30 AM. It has been infuriating. Every time I wake up at this ungodly hour, I typically go to bed at 12 AM or later, fully expecting to sleep in a little the following day. However, I will never get another opportunity to experience those missed extra hours of staying in bed. It made me start to wonder.
Accepting My Third Choice
It has been almost a year since I’ve committed to Thomas Jefferson University, and yet I only recently came to terms with and accepted my school for what it is. A little late, right? Thomas Jefferson University (shortened to TJU) was not my first choice. It was my third – being the school I’d go to if I did not make it into my reach schools. And I didn’t. I made two attempts at Ivy Leagues and received rejections from both. Coming from an academically competitive school, I felt stupid and unworthy.
Top 10 Romance Tropes
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I have decided to rank my favorite tropes found in the romance genre. Most of these tropes will relate to either the plot or the relationship rather than specific situations, which excludes tropes like “only one bed.” If a trope is not in this list, this can mean one of two things. Either I forgot about it, or I really hate it. For example, the “ugly duckling” trope is not cute and I vehemently hate it thus will not be on this list for favorites. 10.
Love & Valentines: A Think Piece & Reflection
Recently, two of my friends have come to me agonizing about their respective love interests. But in all honesty, as someone who has never been in a relationship before, I think it is pretty amusing for me to listen and offer my advice. My experience with romantic love has mostly been influenced by media: books, movies, and my friends’ relationships. Despite this, I offer pretty good advice.
An Immigrant’s Thanksgiving Story
Every year my family celebrates Thanksgiving. And while this may not seem like such a shocker, it is. I recently asked my dad whether or not he had celebrated Thanksgiving when he first arrived in the United States. My earliest memories were of Thanksgiving with my older cousins and grandparents, but I also wondered if my father had celebrated this American holiday before me. The answer was no.
