Abstract The quantum anomalous Hall effect in magnetically doped topological insulators exhibits a quantized Hall conductance σxy = e2/h arising from the two-dimensional surface states. While conventional transport probes confirm this quantization, they remain insensitive to the field-induced surface charge accumulation as a direct manifestation of σxy.
We spatially modulate the magnetic field applied to the MTI film using Meissner repulsion from a bulk superconductor.22 A niobium cylinder of 1.5?mm diameter and 2?mm height partially covers the surface of a patterned MTI film, but is not in electrical contact. When superconducting, the niobium cylinder screens a portion of the external magnetic field, as sketched in Fig. 1b.
