Classic Picture Books For Young Readers Or For Reading Aloud Together
There are some classic picture books that seem to have been around forever. I have some favourite picture books that my Mother read to me when I was a child. I then read these to my daughter when she was young. Then there were the new favourites. When my daughter was little, she was given a copy of The 20th Century Children’s Book Treasury. It was a collection of 44 classic children’s picture books.

MY COUSIN RACHEL: Re-reading A Favourite Novel 20 Years On
Recently I have been thinking about my experience of re-reading a favourite novel. After coming across a review of My Cousin Rachel, I was inspired to re-read it. When I was just a teenager, I was introduced to the writings of Daphne Du Maurier. My mother gave me a copy of Rebecca, which had been hers when she was younger. When I opened the book, I was instantly transported to another world. A world of dark, Gothic suspense, where all was not as it seemed. I was hooked.
5 Reasons To Start Reading To Your Baby
Recently the topic of reading to babies came up for discussion. I am a big supporter of reading to babies, having read to my own child from birth. I still remember when my daughter was around 12 years old and she told me that I didn’t need to read her a bedtime story anymore. We had progressed well beyond picture books, to teen chapter books by this point. Reading to her was less about teaching her to read and more about a bedtime bonding ritual that we enjoyed together. I was devastated.
Why I Still Read Junior and Young Adult Fiction
I confess, I am an adult, but I still read Junior and Young Adult novels. When my daughter was around age 12, she suddenly proclaimed that she was old enough that she didn’t need a bedtime story any more. By this time, we were well beyond picture books. However, each night I would read a chapter of a Junior or Young Adult Novel to her. I enjoyed the time we spent snuggling up, reading together.
