1 INTRODUCTION Nuciferine (NUC, Figure 1A) is the main biologically active ingredient obtained from the dried leaves of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn (Huang et al., 2022; Sharma et al., 2017) and has been reported to possess extensive pharmacological activities, including anti-obesity (Dai et al., 2016), anti-atherosclerosis (Xiao et al., 2022), anticancer (Kang et al., 2017), anti-inflammatory (Wu et al., 2017) and antioxidation (Liu et al., 2014).
