I was a "junior correspondent" for The Manila Times.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, that's where I first learned how to type when I was younger. My uncle used to own one.
How is social media changing news?
It made it easier to send stories out in the world, but more difficult to get noticed.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I always prefer an exclusive story since it's very important to be "first," especially in this field.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter. It's literally a melting pot of all sorts of news from every part of the world.
Who do you wish followed you?
Maria Ressa.
Why did you become a journalist?
I've always had a knack for writing since I was a kid and I wanted to change the world, so I figured why not become a journalist? Lol
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Read whatever, whenever, wherever.
When's the best time to pitch you?
I'm good whenever.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
I was once sent a pitch involving a "youth organization" which turned out to be a cult. That was pretty weird.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Right now, I mostly read anything from The New York Times. As a young dreaming journalist, to work for them is the goal.
