San Jose Sharks’ Mediocre Opening to Season Leaves Plenty to Be Desired
How the Sharks fared against the Stars only made matters worse. San Jose was thoroughly outplayed from start to finish, lacking the requisite effort, energy and attention to detail needed to hang around a talented Dallas squad. The Sharks looked utterly lost and discombobulated without the Hart Trophy hopeful on the ice, firing a measly 13 shots on goal in their first loss of the season after back-to-back home triumphs.
San Jose Sharks’ Mediocre Opening to Season Leaves Plenty to Be Desired
The San Jose Sharks may have started their 2026-27 campaign at a steady 4-3-0, but the opening two weeks certainly haven’t lacked drama. Overtime thrillers, an injury scare and a whole lot of goals allowed have defined the first portion of the Sharks’ slate. Team Teal began the season with a bang, outlasting the Panthers for their first opening-night win since 2021, followed by overtime victories against the Kings, Blues and later the Predators.

The San Jose Sharks Clearly Won the 2026 NHL Draft Original
Just because a team owns three first-round picks doesn’t guarantee a draft will be a resounding success. The job isn’t done once the front office accumulates assets. They must still select players with the right skill sets, development timelines and intangibles for the team—players who will fill areas of need and fit with the rest of the roster. All first-rounders possess talent, but only some can change the trajectory of a franchise.
The San Jose Sharks should trade the No. 2 pick
Entering with the ninth-best odds to land the top pick, the San Jose Sharks shocked the hockey world last month when they landed the second overall selection in the NHL Draft Lottery. Even before the lottery, the Sharks owned what scouts widely considered the league's best prospect pool. General manager Mike Grier, immediately after taking over hockey operations in 2022, initiated a methodical, long-term rebuild.
Grading Every San Jose Shark Player’s 2025-26 Season
Finishing the 2025-26 NHL season with 86 points, the most since they last made the postseason seven years ago, the San Jose Sharks finished four points out of the final Western Conference playoff spot. While eliminated from playoff contention with two games to go, there is no way to characterize San Jose’s season as anything other than a resounding success.

Should Macklin Celebrini Win MVP if the Sharks Make the Playoffs? Original
Macklin Celebrini is having an outstanding season in only his second NHL year. The 19-year-old center is performing at a level that only hockey legends Wayne Gretzky and Sidney Crosby have matched among players his age, all while helping a struggling San Jose Sharks team that has missed the playoffs for six straight seasons regain its place in the NHL.
Laser-cooling ${}^{88}$$\mathrm{Sr}$ to microkelvin temperature with an integrated-photonics system
We report on generating a magneto-optical trap (MOT) of 88-strontium () atoms at microkelvin temperature, using integrated-photonics devices. With metasurface optics integrated on a fused-silica substrate, we generate six-beam circularly polarized counterpropagating MOTs on the blue broad-line (461-nm) and red narrow-line (689-nm) cooling transitions without bulk optics. By use of a diverging beam configuration, we create up to 10-mm-diameter MOT beams at the trapping location.
Nonlinear Networks for Arbitrary Optical Synthesis
Author(s) , , Su-Peng Yu, , Abstract Nonlinear wavelength conversion is a powerful control of light, especially when implemented at the nanoscale with integrated photonics. However, strict energy conservation and phase-matching requirements constrain the converted output. To overcome these constraints and enable novel functionalities, we introduce nonlinear networks—systems of nonlinear photonic elements that observe a programmable set of conservation rules.

Move Over, Dockerfiles! The New Way to Craft Containers
Docker has become an immensely popular tool in the world of software development, and for good reason. It provides an excellent way to create, manage, and deploy containers, which in turn enables developers to run applications that work the same way in development and production. However, creating Docker images can sometimes be a pain, as anybody who has accidentally broken the apt cache and triggered an hours-long build by making a minor change can tell you.
“Sigstore: Software Signing For Everybody” has been published in the proceedings of the ACM Computer and Communications Security Conference
Authors: Zachary Newman, John Speed Meyers, and Santiago Torres-Arias Sigstore: Software Signing for Everybody has been published at the 2022 ACM Computer and Communications Security (CCS) conference in Los Angeles, CA, an academic computer security conference, featuring publications from research universities around the world and industry labs at organizations like Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon.
Don’t Panic: A Playbook for Handling Account Compromise with Sigstore
Despite your best efforts, you may no longer trust artifacts, keys, or identities when signing software. A container might turn out to have vulnerabilities, a key might be lost, or worse: a trusted account could be compromised. There’s a myth that Sigstore makes revocation harder; in fact, the opposite is true! While it is true that the signatures on software are stored forever, software verification using Sigstore does support artifact revocation.
Securing Software Repositories with the OpenSSF
Here at Chainguard, we believe that everyone benefits from better security in open-source software. That’s why we’re so excited that the OpenSSF has just created a new “Securing Software Repositories” working group, which aims to bring maintainers of software repositories and package managers together to share and develop best practices for secure software distribution. So far, the group has seen participants from many language communities, including PHP, Python, Ruby, Java, and Rust.
