Decoupling the air sensitivity of Na-layered oxides
Editor’s summary A bottleneck in the deployment of sodium-layered oxide battery cathodes arises due to detrimental effects caused by air, particularly during their manufacture. What has not been clear, however, is what components in the air are the culprits. Yang et al. effectively isolated and examined individual air components and found that their stability is compromised by the combined effect of water with carbon dioxide or oxygen.
