Abstract The digital technology revolution boosts residents’ income while creating income inequality mechanisms. Reducing rural income inequality (RII) is a global major challenge. With wider technology access, e-commerce greatly impacts narrowing RII, yet few studies explore how e-commerce affects RII. Taking China’s rural e-commerce (RE) development as a case, this study analyzes the digital economy’s impact on RII and its mechanisms.
