The global extent of the grassland biome and implications for the terrestrial carbon sink - Nature Ecology & Evolution
Abstract Land cover data are commonly used to model the terrestrial carbon (C) sink, yet these data have wide margins of error that significantly alter estimates of global C storage. Here we demonstrate this data vulnerability in grasslands, which are critical to C cycling but whose estimated distribution has varied by >50 million km2 (3.5–42% of the Earth’s terrestrial surface).
Self-compressed to narrowband picosecond pulses generated by extremely large anomalous net cavity dispersion
An all-fiber laser with passive mode-locking based on the NPE effect was realized with highly chirped Bragg grating (CFBG), which provides extremely large anomalous net cavity dispersion of −81.2 ps2. It provides pulses with a spectral width of 0.12 nm, a duration of 16 ps, and an energy of 0.6 nJ. Intracavity evolution of such narrowband pulses was investigated numerically. It revealed a key influence of the spectrum self-compression effect on the pulse formation in a laser cavity.
Local hydroclimate alters interpretation of speleothem δ18O records - Nature Communications
Abstract Oxygen isotopes (δ18O) are the most commonly utilized speleothem proxy and have provided many foundational records of paleoclimate. Thus, understanding processes affecting speleothem δ18O is crucial. Yet, prior calcite precipitation (PCP), a process driven by local hydrology, is a widely ignored control of speleothem δ18O. Here we investigate the effects of PCP on a stalagmite δ18O record from central Vietnam, spanning 45 – 4 ka.

Gender-specific differences in feasibility of pre-lacrimal window approach
Abstract The feasibility and surgical effort of a pre-lacrimal window approach (PLWA) depends on the width of the bony window anterior to the nasolacrimal duct. This study aimed to investigate gender-specific differences in feasibility of PLWA. A consecutive series of paranasal computed tomography scans from 50 females (n = 100) and 50 males (n = 100) were retrospectively analyzed. The primary outcome measure was the antero-posterior length of the bony pre-lacrimal window (BPLWA).
