Low electrode potentials enhance current generation by Geobacter sulfurreducens biofilms: A high-throughput study
Extracellular electron transfer (EET) is a microbial process where electrons are transferred outside the cell to reduce an electron acceptor (EA). It was identified in the 1980s in microorganisms that used metal oxides as EAs for respiration in oxygen-limiting environments (Lovley et al., 1987, Myers and Nealson, 1988).
Liquid-liquid phase separation in human diseases: Functions, mechanisms and treatments
Section snippets Basic chemical principle of LLPS The basic concept of phase separation in cells was proposed as early as the end of the 19th century, but it did not receive enough attention from scientists due to the relatively backward state of biochemistry theory and analytical observational instruments at the time. Until Brangwynne et al.

Time and magnetic field dependent magnetic order in ${\mathrm{Ca}}_{3}{\mathrm{Co}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{6}$ revealed by resonant x-ray scattering
Abstract The observation of time dependent magnetic order in the spin-chain compound Ca3Co2O6, a promising candidate for showing out-of-equilibrium magnetization behavior, has received tremendous attention for over a decade. The present study uses resonant magnetic scattering close to the cobalt K-absorption edge to probe directly the time, temperature, and magnetic field dependence of the magnetic order in a Ca3Co2O6 single crystal.
"Hydrodynamics of DNA confined in nanoslits and nanochannels" by K. D. Dorfman, D. Gupta et al.
Keywords Hydrodynamic radius, hydrodynamic interaction, pair correlation function, persistence length Abstract Modeling the dynamics of a confined, semiflexible polymer is a challenging problem, owing to the complicated interplay between the configurations of the chain, which are strongly affected by the length scale for the confinement relative to the persistence length of the chain, and the polymer-wall hydrodynamic interactions.
21st-Century Jobs in the Oil and Gas Industry—The Role of Competency Matrices and CMT in Addressing Skills Gaps
The nature and integration of oil and gas professional activities and practices in the 21st- century energy industry is rapidly evolving. Nowadays, career planning is incomplete without an evaluation of the expected minimum breadth and depth of knowledge required across multiple disciplines. This article provides an assessment of what a petroleum graduate is expected to know or pick up within their first 6 months in the industry.
Tipping the immunostimulatory and inhibitory DAMP balance to harness immunogenic cell death
Abstract Induction of tumor cell death is the therapeutic goal for most anticancer drugs. Yet, a mode of drug-induced cell death, known as immunogenic cell death (ICD), can propagate antitumoral immunity to augment therapeutic efficacy. Currently, the molecular hallmark of ICD features the release of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) by dying cancer cells.

Mapping complex polarization states of light on a solid
Abstract Polarization states of light, represented by different points on a Poincaré sphere, can be readily analyzed for a Gaussian beam by a combination of wave plates and polarizers. However, this method cannot be extended to higher-order Poincaré spheres and complex polarization patterns produced by coherent superpositions of vector vortex (VV) beams.
Inequalities in zoster disease burden: a population‐based cohort study to identify social determinants using linked data from the U.K. Clinical Practice Research Datalink - Jain - 2018 - British Journal of Dermatology - Wiley Online Library
The burden of zoster was higher in specific sociodemographic groups. Further study is needed to ascertain whether these individuals are attending for zoster vaccination. There were 37 014 first zoster episodes, with an incidence of 8·79 [95% confidence interval (CI) 8·70–8·88] per 1000 person‐years at risk. In multivariable analyses, factors associated with higher zoster rates included care home residence (10% higher vs. those not in care homes), being a woman (16% higher vs.
Inequalities in zoster disease burden: a population‐based cohort study to identify social determinants using linked data from the U.K. Clinical Practice Research Datalink - Jain - 2018 - British Journal of Dermatology - Wiley Online Library
This study, from a team working at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the UK, investigated a large group of patients aged 65 or over, seeing a GP between 2003 and 2013 who had experienced an attack of shingles (herpes zoster) during this period. The source of the information was an anonymised data base known as the Clinical Practice Research Data link which records information from many general practices in England.
Inequalities in zoster disease burden: a population‐based cohort study to identify social determinants using linked data from the U.K. Clinical Practice Research Datalink - Jain - - British Journal of Dermatology - Wiley Online Library
This population‐based cohort study used anonymized U.K. primary care data linked to hospitalization and deprivation data. Individuals aged ≥ 65 years without prior zoster history ( N = 862 470) were followed from 1 September 2003 to 31 August 2013. Poisson regression was used to obtain adjusted rate ratios (ARRs) for the association of sociodemographic factors (ethnicity, immigration status, individuals' area‐level deprivation, care home residence, living arrangements) with first zoster episode.

Zoster vaccination was introduced in England in 2013, where tackling health inequalities is a statutory requirement. However, specific population groups with higher zoster burden remain largely unidentified. This population-based cohort study utilised anonymised UK primary care data linked to hospitalisation and deprivation data. Individuals aged ?65 years without prior zoster history (N=862,470) were followed from 01/09/2003-31/08/2013.
Pressure-temperature-deformation-time constraints on the South Tibetan Detachment System in the Garhwal Himalaya (NW India)
A peculiar feature of the Himalaya is the occurrence of a system of low-angle-normal faults and shear zones, the South Tibetan Detachment System (STDS), at the mountain crests. The STDS was active during syn-convergent tectonics. We describe the STDS-related sheared rocks along the Dhauli Ganga valley, in the Garhwal Himalaya (NW India), where the Malari granite, reported as an undeformed igneous body cross-cutting the STDS, occurs.
469P Clinical outcome study of crizotinib in IHC proven EML4-ALK fusion gene among Indian patients with adenocarcinoma lung
Background: The USA Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved VENTANA anti-ALK (D5F3) CDx assay can more accurately identify a new ALK clone, 5A4 than any other commonly used immunohistochemistry (IHC) assay, for the selection of ALK rearranged lung adenocarcinoma patients eligible to receive Crizotinib therapy. However, Indian data on efficacy of Crizotinib in IHC positive non-small-cell lung cancer patients is lacking.

Defects in metal-organic frameworks: a compromise between adsorption and stability?
Defect engineering has arisen as a promising approach to tune and optimise the adsorptive performance of metal–organic frameworks. However, the balance between enhanced adsorption and structural stability remains an open question. Here both CO adsorption capacity and mechanical stability are calculated for the zirconium-based UiO-66, which is subject to systematic variations of defect scenarios. Modulator-dependence, defect concentration and heterogeneity are explored in isolation.
