The 201 Trial: a placebo-controlled randomized phase 2 study of safety and tolerance of the c-Abl kinase inhibitor risvodetinib in untreated Parkinson’s disease | Nature Aging
|
Abstract The nonreceptor Abelson (Abl) tyrosine kinases have been implicated as key drivers of initiation and progression in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Risvodetinib, a potent, brain-penetrant, selective inhibitor of the nonreceptor Abl kinases c-Abl1 and c-Abl2/Arg (collectively, c-Abl), was evaluated in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 2a trial (‘the 201 Trial’) using once-daily 50 mg, 100 mg, 200 mg or placebo in 137 participants with early, untreated PD.

The pace of change of summertime temperature extremes
The pace of change of summertime temperature extremes Edited by Kerry Emanuel, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New Harbor, ME; received March 25, 2024; accepted August 30, 2024 Significance An increase in summertime temperature extremes is one of the most tangible components of climate change, but are they warming faster than typical temperatures at hemispheric and global scales?
Irisin promotes hair growth and hair cycle transition by activating the GSK‐3β/β‐catenin pathway
1 INTRODUCTION Hair loss refers to the phenomenon of reduced hair density or thinning of hair strands and can be induced by various factors, including stress, aging and imbalances in hormones and nutrients.1 Although hair loss is not life-threatening, it affects self-esteem and the quality of life. The drugs minoxidil (MNX) and Finasteride are approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for hair loss treatment.

Cavity-Enhanced Optical Lattices for Scaling Neutral Atom Quantum Technologies to Higher Qubit Numbers
Abstract We demonstrate a cavity-based solution to scale up experiments with ultracold atoms in optical lattices by an order of magnitude over state-of-the-art free-space lattices. Our two-dimensional (2D) optical lattices are created by power-enhancement cavities with large mode waists of 489(8)μm and allow us to trap ultracold strontium atoms at a lattice depth of 60μK by using only 80mW of input light per cavity axis.
Abstract No. 74 Endovascular treatment of pancreaticoduodenal artery aneurysms associated with median arcuate ligament compression of the celiac artery
To review the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of endovascular embolization of pancreaticoduodenal artery aneurysms (PDAAs) associated with median arcuate ligament compression (MALC) of the celiac artery in the largest single-center cohort reported in the literature to date. Also, to provide recommendations for management and follow-up of PDAAs associated with MALC.
The season for large fires in Southern California is projected to lengthen in a changing climate - Communications Earth & Environment
Abstract Southern California is a biodiversity hotspot and home to over 23 million people. Over recent decades the annual wildfire area in the coastal southern California region has not significantly changed. Yet how fire regime will respond to future anthropogenic climate change remains an important question. Here, we estimate wildfire probability in southern California at station scale and daily resolution using random forest algorithms and downscaled earth system model simulations.
Warming weakens the night-time barrier to global fire - Nature
Abstract Night-time provides a critical window for slowing or extinguishing fires owing to the lower temperature and the lower vapour pressure deficit (VPD). However, fire danger is most often assessed based on daytime conditions1,2, capturing what promotes fire spread rather than what impedes fire.
Plant-water sensitivity regulates wildfire vulnerability - Nature Ecology & Evolution
Abstract Extreme wildfires extensively impact human health and the environment. Increasing vapour pressure deficit (VPD) has led to a chronic increase in wildfire area in the western United States, yet some regions have been more affected than others. Here we show that for the same increase in VPD, burned area increases more in regions where vegetation moisture shows greater sensitivity to water limitation (plant-water sensitivity; R2 = 0.71).

Jade Lagardère | MAXIM Australia
Jade Lagardère isn’t the first model-hyphenate, but in a world full of model-actors, model-bloggers, and model-DJs, she might be the only model–comic book author. Lagardère is the creator of Amber Blake, named for a comic book hero who looks just like… well, Jade Lagardère. In the comic books, the character of Amber was abandoned at the age of five and crusades against child abusers. “I’ve always been shocked and outraged at child abuse,” the Paris-based Lagardère says.
Here’s Why You Might Be Struggling with Adult Acne—and How to Get Rid of It
You might think of acne as a teenage problem, but if you’re still suffering from breakouts, you’re not alone. More than half of women over 25 have some facial acne, according to the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology. Whether it’s the occasional zit or severe, cystic lesions adult acne is increasing in women in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and even 50s. So what do you do? For starters, the same rules apply as high school—don’t pop your zits. Even, and especially, if they are whiteheads.

Olivia Burns Is Maxim's January/February Cover Girl
Even in a plain black sweater and jeans, it's impossible to miss Olivia Burns, with her wide green eyes and pillowy lips. It's hard to believe, then, that the winner of the inaugural Maxim Cover Girl competition almost gave up on modeling altogether. "I used to just dream of being a model," says Burns, who lives in Wellington, Florida, "but I felt like you had to be really tall to do it." Fortunately for Burns—and the rest of us—she didn't give up.
Sam Worthington | MAXIM Australia
Sam Worthington isn’t interested in getting to know the real-life people on which his characters are based — at least not before he creates his own vision of them. The British-born Australian actor learned the hard way not to get too close to source material. “I did a movie once where the guy was a real-life guy and he would hang out in my hotel lobby and at the end of my day, he’d be there and he’d say, ‘How’d it go?
Martha Hunt Is Maxim's December Cover Girl
Martha Hunt has a showstopping body, but her headspace is just as enviable. The Maxim Hot 100 model and Victoria's Secret Angel practices transcendental meditation, plays brain games, and writes in her spare time. Though Hunt is constantly flying from job to job—or perhaps because she is—she makes time to stay still. "I've hardly been home this month, and it just really blocks out the noise," she says of her meditation practice.

Devon Windsor Is Maxim's October Cover Girl
Devon Windsor has made the Maxim Hot 100 list twice, walked the Victoria's Secret fashion show four times, and boasts a million Instagram followers. But she still needs to pinch herself sometimes. Like when she hit one million followers on Instagram. "My mom sent me a video of what a million looks like—it was a million letter As—and I saw it physically like that.

North American megadroughts in the Common Era: reconstructions and simulations
During the Medieval Climate Anomaly (MCA), Western North America experienced episodes of intense aridity that persisted for multiple decades or longer. These megadroughts are well documented in many proxy records, but the causal mechanisms are poorly understood. General circulation models (GCMs) simulate megadroughts, but do not reproduce the temporal clustering of events during the MCA, suggesting they are not caused by the time history of volcanic or solar forcing.
Contribution of anthropogenic warming to California drought during 2012-2014
A suite of climate datasets and multiple representations of atmospheric moisture demand are used to calculate many estimates of the self-calibrated Palmer Drought Severity Index, a proxy for near-surface soil moisture, across California from 1901–2014 at high spatial resolution. Based on the ensemble of calculations, California drought conditions were record-breaking in 2014, but probably not record-breaking in 2012–2014, contrary to prior findings.
